The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has noted that unemployment will be a thing of the past with his empowerment and industrialization programmes.
Speaking while receiving a report submitted by a 21-man transition committee he set up recently to prepare a blueprint for the smooth take-off of his administration, Udom re-assured that he hopes to run a state where others will try to emulate “due to the sacrifices we will make for our people and the future of our next generation”.
Udom commended the committee members for painstakingly committing themselves to the assignment and challenged them to make themselves available for more services to the state in the near future.
The incoming governor thanked Akwa Ibom people for the speaking in his favour through their ballot papers and reiterated his desire to be exemplary in selfless service to the state.
While thanking the elders and political chieftains for their unrelenting support to him, he appealed that less attention should be placed on political appointments in the state.
Udom said his emphasis was on creating empowerment and employment opportunities to a majority of the population and not on giving too many people appointments.
Mr Udom dismissed speculations that he has already made some appointments, advising that no one should be misguided as he will make public any appointment he makes.
“We have a cardinal objective which is to impress and we will always be willing to get the right team for the assignment.”
He pleaded with the elders to remain resolute in their groups to act as advisors to his administration
Udom thanked Governor Akpabio for uniting the State through good leadership and assured that the state under his administration will remain one of the focal points in the world.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the transition committee Chief Sunny Akpadiaha noted that the report was in three (3) volumes.
The first volume being the main report, the second volume being the report that “captures all memos, inputs and submissions obtained from ministries and departments”, while the third volume has a “list of all inventories as contained in the committee’s terms of reference”.
Chief Akpadiaha who took time to highlight the various sections of the report said, “most importantly is section 13, and we have listed a number of life touching projects which should be initiated or completed within the first 100 days of this administration, we consider these projects very important and life touching because these are the projects that would stimulate public trust and confidence.
The committee also noted in summary the “prevalent rate of unemployment, high level of poverty and we have made appropriate recommendations on how to handle the issues”.
On the dwindling fortunes of the federal allocation, Chief Akpadiaha stated that his committee made a case on the need for a compelling look into the state’s internally generated revenue adding that, “we have made a number of recommendations part of which is to revamp and reorganized our entire revenue generating machinery”.
