Sam Edem advocates creativity and hard work among youths
Youths have been tasked on channeling their exuberance into resourceful and productive initiatives, working hard to create opportunities for themselves and others as well as bring progress to the state. 

This charge was made by former chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission, Ambassador Sam Edem recently, while receiving a LEGEND Award from Association of Beauty Queens and Kings, Akwa Ibom State Council at Summit Complex Hotels and Suites, Uyo. 

Amb. Edem, who expressed delight at the originality and acumen display by the executive and members of the group however reminded them to ensure that their formal education is not sacrificed on the altar of fame. 
“I am pleased to note that all of you are at different levels of the academic ladder. I therefore urge you that education must be a priority because the crowning of every handsome man and beautiful lady is intelligence”. 

He urged them to be focused on achieving their set goals and objectivities and to connect with similar groups across the country and beyond in order to gain needed exposure and reap accrued benefits. 

The former NDDC boss thereafter accepted their request for patronage and pledged to make available the conference hall of Summit Complex for the forthcoming pageantry, the group intends to organize. 

Earlier in his address, the president of Association of Beauty Queens and Kings, Akwa Ibom State Council,  Evangelist Ukeme Michael, disclosed that the choice of Ambassador Sam Edem for the LEGEND award and patronage of the group was after a painstaking assessment, saying they were unanimous in recommending the Elder statesman in recognition of his excellent career track record and numerous selfless contributions toward development of the state and nation as a whole. 

He revealed that the group was conceived in response to the need to sanitize the pageantry industry in the state, adding that as a result of advocacy by the group several abuses hitherto faced by contestants during pageantry have been stopped while global best practice is adopted. 

Ukeme also stated that the association is in its fledgling period and appealed to the former NDDC boss for assistance to ensure the group achieves the objective of standardizing pageantry industry in the state. 

“We respectfully appeal to His Excellency, Ambassador Sam Edem, for assistance in organizing the upcoming pageantry, which will hopefully hold at Summit Complex, Uyo”. 

Also speaking, Miss Nsit Ubium, Nseabasi Umana, informed Amb. Edem that hosting the pageantry in Summit Complex  will give the hotel the right to sponsor a ‘Miss Summit Complex’ and further enhance the marketability of the hospitality outfit to numerous clients. 

On the entourage of the group, were Miss South South, Miss Mkpat Enin, Miss Oruk Anam and Miss Library. Others included Miss VAL, Miss Annang, Miss Etinan, Miss Etim Ekpo and Miss Nsit Ubuim. 

Still on the entourage were Miss Afaha Offot, Miss Afaha Obong, Miss Ukanafun, Miss Chemsa, Miss Ibesikpo Asutan, Miss Gonna, Miss Face of Tara, Mr Freedom and Mr Ibibio.
