It’s well with A’Ibom workers under Akpabio - Unyime Usoro
Against the backdrop  that Akwa Ibom   workers are living below par with their counterparts in other states of the federation, the state Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Unyime Usoro, has stated unequivocally that “it is well with the state workers”.

Mr. Usoro stated this in his office on Monday during a special interactive session with newsmen.

He said the Union is proud of the number one citizen of the state, Governor Godswill Akpabio for his prompt response to workers’ needs which he accentuated has boost the moral of the Union in the State.
The Labour leader noted that his assertion was based on the facts that State workers now have fleet of cars, good physical outlook, timely payment of salaries, training and retraining of members of the Union in the state against what is obtained in the other part of the country.

“If I say it’s not well, i won’t be fair to the workers and government of the day.” He stated.
He however stressed that some workers in the state are facing some hitches as his position did not mean they don’t have pocket of issues to tackle.

“considering the case of primary school teachers in the state, most of them are  complaining of 2013-2014 leave grant as well as promotion arrears and some are not promoted for years”, he stated.

On why the Union Endorsed a particular political party’s candidate despite the  myriads of them, the state NLC Boss hinted that, the Union did not have an alternative, as only One candidate availed himself when the Union invited all governorship candidates for an official interaction.

He described the just concluded Presidential /National Assembly elections, conducted by  Prof. Attahiru Jega as free, fair, credible and acceptable, despite some complaints of lack of sensitive election materials and hitches of card readers in some areas.

While urging members of the Union to turnout enmasse again, on Saturday, and vote for a political party and candidate that will have workers’ welfare at heart as well as the interest of the People, Comrade Usoro, commended Akwa Ibom delegates to the just concluded NLC election of its National officers, saying that their conduct during the process was worthwhile.
