Goreti Girls Sec. School: Parents hail Akpabio, call for construction of access road 

 Parents of the students of Goreti Girls Secondary School, Ikot Ekpene have applauded the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for the rehabilitation of the School blocks which were in a very sorry state. They also send a passionate appeal to the state government to reconstruct the road leading to the school which is presently not motorable . 

The parents took the position during the school’s Parents/Teachers Association meeting held in the last Friday.

Speaking to our reporter after the meeting, the P. T. A. Chairman in the school, Prince Emmanuel A. Umoette said the parents, after inspection of projects embarked upon by the Akwa Ibom State Government, were full of appreciation for the Governor for coming to the rescue of the school which was in a deplorable state.

He thanked the Governor for uncommonly transforming the school and for his free and compulsory education policy in the state.

According to the Chairman, parents, during inspection of the school dormitory discovered that most students were sleeping on the floor due to insufficient bunks in the school. He disclosed that the school dormitory has only 76 bunks as against the over 280 boarding students and announced the decision of parents to buy more bunks for the students in support of the state government’s effort in the upgrading of facilities and the free and compulsory education.

Prince Umoette appealed to the state government to urgently repair the only road leading to the school which he said had been a source of worry even as many teachers, according to him, seek transfer from the school on account of the bad road.

He added that even Commercial motorcyclist refuse plying that road, a development he said affected the school adversely.

Also speaking, the principal of the school, Lady Lucina Udoh expressed happiness over the government intervention projects in the school, maintaining that it will help create conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The meeting had a large number of parents and teachers in attendance.
