Student commits suicide in Uyo BY NSIKAN NYONG

A student of Etoi Secondary School, Master Aniebiet Effiong has committed suicide at his father’s compound at Akpasak Estate, Ifa Atai.

His father discovered him when he returned from work and knocked at his door without a response. He then broke into his room and met his corpse dangling on the ceiling fan. The father then raised the alarm that alerted neighbours who trooped into the premises of to witness the incident.
According to the brother of the deceased, Mr. Paul Effiong, who shares the same room with him, Aniebiet did not leave a suicide note or disclose to  him anything  pertaining to suicide and went on to express his displeasure at  his brother’s tragic death.

A Class mate who pleaded anonymity said that Aniebiet was friendly and very accommodating. He went on to express surprise at Aniebiet’s action but observed that “I noticed him behaving in a different way during  the week, we just took it kindly and called him names not knowing that something was  wrong.  Although I am so touched considering his premature death, at the same time I feel like blaming him for hurting us so much.”

Although the family had reported the incident to the police for investigation, burial arrangements have been made and the family has consulted the traditionalists for proper traditional rites to be carried out in the premises before the burial.
