On the heels of the recent visit of the National Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu to Akwa Ibom State on official duty, a group known as “Mu’azu support Group for Greater PDP (MSGP)”, has stormed the state to help the National Chairman in building a greater and better PDP.
The group led by its state coordinator, Hon. Anthony Charles on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the political leader of Essien Udim L.G.A, Obong Micheal A. Afanghide in its drive to consolidating on the successes of the party and winning new members ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Speaking, Mr. Charles told the political leaders that the group was in the state as part of its nation wide consultative tour in winning back old and new members through genuine reconciliation and internal democratic machinery, in keeping with the vision of the national chairman of the party.
He presented an insignia of patronship to the godfather of Essien Udim politics and announced him as the Grand Patron of the group in Akwa Ibom State, stating that the group found him worthy of the position because of his political pedigree and as the man who brought Governor Godswill Akpabio to political limelight.
“Our mission is to help the National Chairman of our great party, the PDP, in building a greater and better party. Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu inherited a party ridden by crisis which led to many members opting out but today the National Chairman of the party has been able to stabilize the party ahead of 2015’’, Mr. Charles explained.
“We are working with the mandate of the National Chairman of PDP and your appointment as Grand Patron of our group in Akwa Ibom State is on merit because of your political astuteness and pedigree’’, the group leader said.
Responding, Chief Afanghide welcomed the group and commended members for working towards National peace and progress of the party, adding that the PDP in Akwa Ibom State is stable because of its leadership and the uncommon transformation witnessed in the state by the Akpabio’s administration.
Afanghide commended Alhaji Mu’azu for bringing peace to the party at the federal level where President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has performed excellently well, while being optimistic that the party will win majority of the states in the forth-coming presidential election with President Jonathan as the flag bearer of the PDP.
He charged the Mu’azu support group to engage in grassroots mobilization of members especially in states with strong opposition, adding that the present security challenges facing the country will soon be over and that the 2015 general elections will be peaceful, free and fair because God is in control.
