Guber 2015: Ukanafun endorses Bassey Albert

Guber 2015: Ukanafun endorses Bassey Albert
The governorship ambition of Obong Bassey Albert received a boost recently as the people of Ukanafun endorsed him as its sole gubernatorial aspirant for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Obong Albert received the endorsement during a consultative visit to Ukanafun people which took place at the residence of the former Deputy Speaker and member representing Ukanafun in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Okon Uwah at Ikot Antia Afaha Obo, Ukanafun Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of Ukanafun Elders, a former Council Chairman, Barr Udo Usung noted that the endorsement of Obong Albert for Governor borne 2015 was borne out of his (Albert’s) political sagacity and pedigree, insisting that only the caliber and candidature of Bassey Albert could drive the state to an enviable height. The former council boss stated that it was imperative for Akwa Ibom to decide by themselves who their governor would be.

Barr. Usung who spoke against zoning said “the present zoning is fake. In any civilized democracy, zoning is done by everyone. You don’t sit in Abuja to do it using the town hall meeting to ratify it.  We don’t want to loose Akwa Ibom state to another party that is why we must vote Bassey Albert from Uyo Senatorial District for governor. Besides, it was agreed that power will return to Uyo Senatorial District”.

The political heavyweight also appreciated Bassey Albert for making sure his consultation is done in the open unlike other aspirants he said were often hidden. He urged the gubernatorial aspirant to negotiate properly with the people, taking note of their core values which he said was a stance by Abak 5 for them to produce the next senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

Speaking on behalf of the women, the women leader of Ukanafun Local Government Area, Mrs. Nsifon Akpan pointed out that the women of Ukanafun have unanimously thrown their weight behind Bassey Albert owing to leadership qualities. She offered insight to the fact that they see Bassey Albert as the best aspirant who knows Akwa Ibom better stemming from the inter-ministerial projects he supervised in various communities of the state. She stressed that as the women have decided to support him, they were poised to follow him to the end.

In his address, the Host, Rt. Hon. Okon Uwah noted that the people of Ukanafun were disheartened over the developmental condition of the area but that he perceives things would change positively in the area come 2015. He changed Mr. Albert not to forget the people especially as they had accepted him.

Earlier in his address, the gubernatorial aspirant, Obong Bassey Albert disclosed that his ambition was not  based on zoning rather it was established on prophecy, insisting that his case will be like that of David and Solomon who were kings based on prophecy and not zoning. He maintained that he was ready to go into negotiations with Ukanafun people because he “was not riding on anybody’s back to emerge as governor”. He adds “when Joseph was sold, it did not stop him from being the prime Minister. I am the people’s choice.

It is people that make a kingdom if you are lifted by someone; you are limited by the power of those hands. Same does not happen when you are lifted by God. I want God to make me the governor so that the glory will belong to him alone. Akwa Ibom people made Akpabio the governor, Attah had who he supported, same thing will happen again”.

The gubernatorial aspirant charged the people not to sell their conscience, but should rather use their liberty to choose who their governor should be, stressing that he was poised to follow from where governor Akpabio stopped.

The former commissioner for finance also revealed that he has been approached with the slot of being the Deputy governor or Secretary to the State government, but he has always intimated such persons that Akwa Ibom people said he should be the governor. He however advised the people to welcome anyone that comes to consult them, adding that they should choose the best among the aspirants as he was optimistic to be chosen.
