A one time Commissioner for health in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Edet Attih has re-iterated that Oro has enough and eminently capable governorship materials to pilot the affairs of Akwa Ibom State come 2015.
Dr. Attih stated this during an interactive session with journalists at Jovens Garden Hotel in Oron immediately after his inauguration as the Chairman of Elders Advisory Committee of Oro 2015 Movement, a new impact-filled socio-political pressure group in the state, debunked the spurious insinuations that “Oro has no capable aspirant” to put forward for the Akwa Ibom State 2015 gubernatorial race.
Dr. Attih who have been in active medical practice for over three decade now with a sordid base in Calabar, Uyo and Oron axis contended that the Oro politician may be starved of democratic dividends, political comradeship and government juicy contracts by some of his associates from other ethnic groups but “definitely not the political clout, dexterity, savvy and charisma to rule Akwa Ibom State”
The former health commissioner and founding member of PDP, AKPF and 1 for 8 Initiative however, expressed enthusiasm that the clamour for Oro governor in 2015 and his import on equity, fairness, brotherhood and harmonious co-existence cannot be easily forgotten, even as he maintained that though elective offices are won on numerical and voting strength, divine providence and natural justice could surprisingly enthrone a minority tribe and ethnic nationality on political and elective platforms.
Dr. Attih while disclosing that during his membership of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council in Obong Victor Attah’s administration, the then governor anointed him, governor Godswill Akpabio (then a commissioner) as well as late Head of Service – Obong Eseme Essien in the government house chapel after a solemn assembly session, as potential and prospective leaders from the three ethnic group of Ibibio, Annang and Oron, however expressed dismay at the seeming loss of memory of the TRIPODAL composition of Akwa Ibom State particularly, now that it is Oro turn to produce the next governor.
While answering questions, the erudite politician cum medical expert opined that there will be serious crack in the political wall of the state if Oro is denied the governor of the state or schemed out of the race under flimsy and untenable reasons without recourse to the zoning formulae and natural exposition to power shift.
On his interest in the 2015 governorship election, the former health Commissioner confirmed that his interest in the governorship race in 2015 has been rekindled in a wider proportion, largely influenced by the magnitude of persistent requests by his friends, political associates, professional colleagues, kinsmen, clients and admirers, adding that he, will “very soon” make public his declaration and consultations.
Asked if he considered himself a suitable material for the office of the governor of the state. Dr. Attih declared, “I think the press could do well to find that out from my track record, pedigree, antecedents, performance as well as health facilities which were put in place during my tenure, my relationship with those who have come my way and above all my humble role in formation of political organizations in and outside Akwa Ibom State.
Please permit me not to “blow my trumpet” by enumerating all my achievements, kindly find out and report to the people “
