The latest is from the Students Union Government (SUG), University of Calabar which took place on the 3rd of July, 2014.
When it was the turn of Mr. David Etuk and workaholic special assistant to the Governor of on projects to be honoured. Comrade Bassey Ekah the SUG president stated that “in recognition of your philanthropic and development and immense contribution to the growth and development of academic propelled by the unrivaled and uncommon performance of his Excellency Sir Godswill Obot Akpabio CON. I on behalf of the executives and students of the University of Calabar bestow on you this Award of Honour; congratulations Sir”.
The event which took place at the UNCIAL International Conference Center attracted dignitaries from the academia.
The University Bursar, Mr. Peter Agi Echo spoke on “life after school” urged students not to depend on Government to provide them with employment due to limited opportunities for white collar robs.
“White collar jobs are limited in the labour market, it is advisable for young graduates to explore other avenues such as self employment and skill acquisition” He said. Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to selected guest.
In his post award speech, Hon. Ubong Abasi David Etuk expressed his appreciation to the Almighty God and poured encomiums on Governor Akpabio for the opportunity given to him to serve in his administration.
“Today’s is fallout of the commitment of his Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to free, compulsory and qualitative education experienced in Akwa Ibom State. Enrollment has tripled irrespective of one’s state of origin; the Governor is timeout paying 100 naira per child per term for primary and secondary school students”.
Governor Akpabio has not only provided desks to all the schools but has been renovating and building primary new and secondary school blocks across the three senatorial district with red roofs. Through interim.
“My Governor has embarked on a yearly massive recruitment of primary and secondary school teachers in order to prepare our future leaders to grapple unit the challenges ahead”. The state award and even federal institutions in the state have enfaced the construction of internal roads, perimeters fencing provision of utility vehicles including and allowances, regular training and retraining of personal scholarships and bursary awards in the list is endless.
“Sufficient to say that the state Government has invested much in education with a view to enhancing leadership qualities of our children. Therefore, I dedicate this award to his Excellency Sir Godswill Obot Akpabio CON the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State”.
Others who received awards were Mr. Anthony Ezeukwu, Ar. Nkem Tilije, Chief Adwina Egwuanumku, Adtahiru, and Admiral Madam Charters.
