Former lawmakers okay Ekong Sampson for 2015 …says he is qualified to represent them at the National Assembly


Former lawmakers okay Ekong Sampson for 2015
Former Lawmakers from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency have expressed satisfaction with the achievements of Barr. Ekong Sampson and have urged him to represent the Constituency in 2015.

The team which was led by Rt. Hon. Ekong Mex Umoh, a former member of the House of Representatives made their petitions known during a solidarity visit to Barr. Ekong Sampson last week. A release signed by the former lawmakers read thus, “we have come here today to join well-meaning indigenes of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to urge you, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson to run to represent Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the next dispensation.” 



Commenting on Barr. Ekong Sampson’s profile, the Lawmakers acknowledged his close relationship with the National Assembly since 1999, where he served as Chief Legislative Assistant/Special Assistant to Senator Udoma Udo Udoma; when he served as Chairman, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and his present duty as the member representing Mkpat Enin in the State Constituency. 


They also commended him for building bridges across the socio-political spectrum, noting that his intellectual and philanthropic dispositions has made him one of the ablest and most effective representatives in the State House of Assembly.


In the release, the Lawmakers noted thus: “your empowerment programmes, employment drive and commitment to providing critical infrastructure to your people have stood you out as a trustworthy goal getter. Your deep grasp of legislative procedure, contacts and humility have endeared you to many. Given the current political dynamics in our Federal Constituency, we believe that your candidature will go a long way to stabilize our Federal Constituency polity.”


They however commended the state Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, for his steadfastness in making Akwa Ibom one of those who can boast of infrastructures and a rebirth that is the envy of many while calling on well-meaning citizens of the state to cooperate with the Governor to encourage him in his bid produce an acceptable successor that will consolidate on the gains of the present State administration.


They expressed believe that at the national level, the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan to complete his second term will help to stabilize Nigeria, particularly in the light of the present security challenges in some parts of the country and pledged their support for the President’s ambition.  


The former Lawmakers stated clearly however, that their positions are borne out of patriotic considerations, devoid of petty prejudices and parochial sentiments which will be for the general good of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency and the larger society.
