Council boss flag-off planting season

The Esit Eket Council boss has flagged-off this year planting season with the distribution of improved cassava stems and other agro-inputs to members of cassava grower association and other farmers.

In his remarks at the occasion, Hon. Ibanga Etang noted, with the improved seedlings, fertilizer and cassava stems, we should produce enough food for consumption and sell to others.

He recalled the provision of fertilizer, improved cassava stems and other inputs is a deliberate policy of his administration to ensure the production of enough food for consumption by farmers within the locality.
Hon. Etang appreciated the government for providing fertilizers at subsidized rate for onward distribution to formers.

He appeals to youths to direct their energies to productive agricultural ventures instead of waiting for white collar jobs. He reiterated the resolve of the administration to assist them in the provision of technical expertise and to link them to specialized government agency for financial assistance.
The council boss thanked Governor Akpabio for introducing the Integrated Farmers Scheme and Women in Agricultural Development Project that has made our youths and women return to farm.

These two Programme has paid off immensely with a corresponding increase in food production and marked reduction in the number of youths on the streets.
The farmer cum politician advised property owners to allocate space for planting of basic crops within the compound.

In his response on behalf of the farmers, Mr. Asuquo Simon recalled the agricultural sector has received a boost with regular supply of fertilizer, improved seedlings and access to funds.  He assured of improved harvest even as plantain is in abundance in the market courtesy of the improved suckers distributed to them last year by the council
