Akwa Starlets win first home match BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

Akwa Starlets Foot ball Club of Uyo last Saturday won their first home match of the 2013/2014 Nigeria National League football season at Uyo township stadium.

Akwa Starlets midfielder, Johnson Philip provided the only game’s moment of real quality when he crashed a thunderous shot that beat the Ekiti goalkeeper to give the Uyo based side a hard fought victory. The team with over 90 percent of new players struggled to find the back of the net with players displaying individual skills without really achieving the much needed cohesion that would have taken the match beyond the Ekitians.

The visiting side playing with much cohesion and accuracy especially at the defense line adopted some unpalatable delaying tactics that almost frustrated the home side until luck ran out of them and Johnson Philipfiredfrom close range to the cheering of the Uyo supporters.

Supporters of the Uyo based side are however optimistic that that Akwa Starlets will improve upon their game in the forthcoming matches.
