Etinan LG to fight bursary corruption BY AKANIMO KINGSLEY

Students of Iman Ibom origin studying in tertiary institutions will have to go through an unusual process before receiving the local government bursary. This is because a more effective process has been introduced to curtail issues of illegal collection of local government bursary. Making the announcement, the worldwide president of National Association of Etinan Local Government Students (NAELGOS), Cmr. Oku Amos along side with the chapter president of UNIUYO Chapter, Cmr. Augustus Eboh, intimated Iman Ibom students on the new development.

A joint statement by the duo has it that the local government bursary form has different sections of which will be filled by the students and their respective heads of department and then the students Affairs Division of their institution. The forms will then be signed by the NAELGOS president and returned to the local government. In addition, the bursary form carries unique numbers which is registered against the student possessing it, to avoid duplication or printing of fake copies. Another feature of the bursary form is a space where the students Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be entered by his head of department to confirm authenticity of studentship.

The NAELGOS president stressed that the process is not meant to punish Iman Ibom students, but to check corruption and punish and fraudulent means of receiving the bursary by unqualified persons. He thanked the leadership of Etinan Local Government led by Isantim Kenneth Okon, who has finally approved the payment bursary to Etinan students.

Responding, the members of NAELGOS uniuyo chapter registered their appreciation to Isantim Okon for having them at heart, and promised to make Iman Ibom proud at school.


 The said bursary when paid will be the first since Isantim returned to office on his second term bid.
