Ambassador Ukai foundation honours Nsima Ekere BY GODWIN SAM

The Ambassador Ukai Foundation, a socio-political organization based in Uyo, on Thursday 30th January, 2004 honoured Obong Nsima Ekere with the award of “Pillar of Youth Development” at the Methodist Primary School, Itiam Etoi, in Uyo Local Government Area.

The event was a continuation of the ongoing Ambassador Ukai Unity Football Tournament where the former Deputy Governor of the State performed the kick-off in a match between the Itiam All Stars and the Shelter Afrique Football Club of Uyo. The former Deputy Governor, after receiving the award thanked Ukai Udeme Emmanuel, the initiator of the football tournament for the award, describing him as a friend and brother who has vision and love for his people.  According to Mr. Ekere, “it is on record that since Ukai Udeme Emmanuel became the youth president of Itiam Etoi, Itiam has enjoyed peace, whereas before him, there used to be court cases by the youth presidents and either the youths themselves or the village council. 


This shows that he is loved and supported by his people”. He commended the youth president for his commitment towards the betterment of his people by providing them with water, a mini-plaza and an ultra-modern bus stop including his numerous donations to them.

 The former Deputy Governor added that the United Nations Ambassador for Peace, Ukai Udeme Emmanuel, is star waiting to shine and urged the people to give him the needed support to be able to do more for them. He described the footballers as potential football stars of Nigeria and supported the football tournament with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) while advising all present to be diligent in whatever they are doing.  

The initiator of the football tournament and the Youth President of Itiam Etoi, Ukai (Amb.) Udeme Emmanuel in his response, thanked the Ex-deputy Governor for heeding his invitation to come and perform the kick-off of the match and thanked the members of the tournament planning committee for helping to organize the tournament to make it the first of its kind. He also thanked the people for the support given him so far and promised to continue in his deeds towards them and the State at large.

Some of the spectators who spoke about the Youth President’s commitment to the people’s welfare confessed that the tournament, since it commencement, has provided them with something to entertain themselves every evening. 

Meanwhile, the match ended 1 goal to nil in favour of the Shelter Afrique side.
