Nto Otong village wins MIDIM Unity Cup BY EMMANUEL AKPAN


Nto Otong village have  emerged the winning team of the 2013 Midim Football Unity Cup Competition.

Nto Otong won the tournament after beating Nto Obo Village, 3-2 on penalties shoots out after playing 90 minutes and the result ended 1-1 draw at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Midim, Abak Local Government Area.

Presenting the trophy to the winning team, the chief host and the organizer of the competition, Chief (Dr.) Nkereuwem Etukudoh said his aim at the yearly competition was to develop sports from the grassroots as well as discovering talented players through the competition in Midim Clan of Abak L.G.A.

Chief Etukudoh commended the winning team for their determination to compete out of 14 participatory villages in Midim clan to emerge the winning team.
He expressed happiness over the sustainability of peace and unity in Midim clan which according to him that has be possible through the yearly competition organized by him.

In his words “I have promised to organize the football competition in Midim Clan so as to unite my people, discover talented players and above all it’s a tool of peace in Midim”.

Also speaking, the member representing Abak State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Iwok commended Chief Nkereuwm Etukudoh for his determination to organize football competitions in the Midim clan and also to unite the 14 villages that made up the clan. He donated a trophy in support of the competition even as he encouraged the youths to shun violence acts in the area but rather they should engage in peace keeping in the area.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah in his speech described the competition as well as grassroots football as talents hunt even as he commended the sponsor of the competition, Chief (Dr.) Nkereuwem Etukudoh his good gesture in Midim and called on other will doing citizens of the area to emulate Chief Etukudoh. Those present at the final match were; past and present political office holders, government officials and traditional rulers in Midim Clan.
