Youths in Ibibio Nation under the umbrella of the Supreme Council of Youths (Esop Iwaad Ibibio) are unhappy with the way federal appointments in Akwa Ibom State are being shared.

In a press release signed by the President of Esop Iwaad Ibibio, Atauko Sammy Brown and made to THE INK, the group noted that the appointments in question is a gross injustice against the sister ethnic nationalities in the State which consists three ethnic group and three senatorial districts; stating that appointments into federal offices should follow the tripod arrangement by virtue of justice, fairness and equity.

The appointments in question are: office of the Commissioner, National Population Commission, occupied by Moses Ekpo (Abak), office of the Commissioner, Federal Civil Service Commission, Simeon Etim, (Essien Udim), office of the Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, Barr. Matthew Ukpong, (Essien Udim), office of the Legal Secretary, Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ima Okpongette, (Etim Ekpo), office of the Commissioner Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Barr Michael Ebong, (Essien Udim), and office of the Chairperson, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs. Mfon Akpan, (Abak)

They noted that the above mentioned offices are occupied by persons from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial instead of being shared equally among the three ethnic nationalities in the State.
The group observed that even some mouth-watering offices in the State, which are bonafide slots for indigenes of the State have jumped beyond the State boundaries to strange ethnic nationalities, noting further that even the State employ is dominated by the Annangs.

According to the release “the inwardness behind the egocentric idea of Governor Godswill Akpabio is planting the Annang on pivotal positions especially in the civil service, so that other ethnic groups (Ibibio and Oron) will be servants while Annang will be the master in the future. It is now that it dawns on us; the Governor Akpabio’s usual propositions that very soon there will be no ethnic majority in Akwa Ibom State. You can’t see anything yet and the Egyptians (the Ibibio) you see today, you shall see them no more”.

The release further read in point that the Governor who has been singing the unity of Akwa Ibom people on his lips has no shadow or scintilla of unity and love in his heart for other ethnic nationalities in the State as he has out rightly neglected the principle of equity and Federal Character Commission’s law.
“The Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Ita Enang cannot deny that he was on the know being, the Chairman on Rule and Business in the Senate. He is a paper tiger and disappointment to Uyo Senatorial District; he does not have Ibibio in his veins. He kept quiet and allowed misfortunes to befall us. We are tired of your barking but less biting. What an arrant betrayer”, the release read.

The release maintained that Governor Godswill Akpabio owes the good people of Akwa Ibom State explanations on whether there were no eligible individuals in Ibibio and Oro extractions to have had a share of the Federal appointment meant for Akwa Ibom State as well as the Federal Character Commission who also owe the Ibibios an apology for negligence of official duty. It also holds the Senate to ransom for screening the appointees in question without recognizing Federal Character Commission’s law and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to revisit the appointment of the people in question.

Esop Iwaad Ibibio promised to continue to protect and defend the rights of every ethnic nationality in Akwa Ibom State; noting that they are not against Annang but the unjust appointment which is a disservice to other ethnic groups.
