The authorities of Esit Eket Local Government Council have concluded a collaborative agreement that will attract small and medium scale industries technical education training, human capacity development and fast track admission into American universities for its indigenes.
These and other issues were the highpoints of a collaborative meeting between the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ibanga Etang and a group of Esit Eket indigenes based in the United States of America led by Prof. Felix M. Edoho and Dr. Sunny Dan Abia.
Under the agreement, the Diaspora group will source for technical partners for the establishment of small scale industries that will absorb abundant raw materials like palm fruits, plantain and banana ,cassava and sea products for industrial uses and export.
Other benefits of the collaboration includes, facilitating a bilateral agreement between a county council in the United states and Esit Eket Local Government council on grassroots development, tourism, aqua-culture, legislative procedure etc. This is however, subject to the approval by appropriate government agencies.
Earlier, the Esit Eket council boss in his welcome remarks thanked the delegation for acknowledging the uncommon transformation and the infrastructural development strides of the Chief Godswill Akpabio led administration which he said has completely transformed the state from a civil service economy to a destination for investors.
He appreciated them for their high academic, professional and industrial attainment and reiterated the resolve of his administration to partner with other interested professionals in the Diaspora who are willing to use their expertise to assist the council improve the socio-economic life of the people.
Etang noted that their love and interest in the growth and development of their homeland has singled them as true patriots.
The council boss assured the delegation that their ideas and suggestions which will uplift the economic and living standard of the people will not be compromised but treated with the importance and seriousness it deserves.
In their separate remarks, Prof. Felix Edoho and Dr. Sunny Abia applauded the council leadership for the numerous landmark and infrastructural development projects and empowerment programmes initiated by Hon Etang since his assumption of office.
They appealed to the councilors to give Etang the needed support to enable him deliver on his mandate to equally transform Esit Eket into a model in grassroots development.
‘’As indigenes of Esit Eket we appeal that you support the chairman to invest in small scale industries instead of insisting on your welfare only. Posterity will not forget you if you rise above selfish interest’’. They advised.
On lack of qualified technicians for the Oil and Gas industry in Esit Eket, the team noted that if Union Technical College Ikpa, is well equipped with functional and standard workshop, laboratories and qualified teachers; it could be upgraded to a polytechnic where people can be trained to acquire the knowledge needed to run the industry.
