The people of ward ten in Esit Eket Local Government have commended the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio and the nation’s President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for the confidence reposed on their son, Sir (Barr) Bassey Dan Abia, KJW by making him the MD/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The people made their position known last week when the MD/CEO of NDDC hosted them in his hometown at Afaha Ekpenedi in Esit Eket Local Government Area.

Attracting guests from all over the ward and beyond, the event had personalities from traditional institutions which was led by the secretary of the Esit Eket Traditional Rulers Council, who also doubles as the Village Head of Afaha Ekpenedi, Eteidung A. A. Bassey, the ward chairman, Apostle Victor Joe Usen, Chief Etim Mark Edoho, Prince Edet Inyang Bassey, Assistant secretary, PDP Esit Eket, Mr. Christian Inyang and Eteidung Sunday S. Ekpo – Village Head of Odoro Nkit.

Others who registered their presence were Elders, women, youths and different organizations. Speaking at the occasion, the Village Head of Afaha Ekpenedi and secretary, Esit Eket Traditional Rulers Council Eteidung A. A. Bassey appreciated the nation’s president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for honouring the people of Esit Eket by the appointment of Abia as the MD/CEO of NDDC, he also commended Governor Godswill Akpabio for nominating Abia and maintained also that Abia will not disappoint them. He described Abia as a man who has all it takes to work hard and ensure that he justifies the confidence reposed on him by the President and the Governor. Eteidung Bassey described the appointment of Abia into the NDDC as the CEO as monumental and pledged the support of the traditional rulers to the government of the day from the national to the local tiers.

The ward chairman of Ward Ten Esit Eket, Apostle Victor Joe Usen viewed Governor Akpabio as a listening Governor. He said the State Governor being the People’s leader has always been a man with a heart of gold who sees and rewards hard work accordingly. He described Abia as the ward’s political leader whose elevation to the position of MD/CEO of the NDDC will be of immense benefit not only to the people of Esit Eket but Akwa Ibom and Nigerian as a whole.

Speakers from each of the villages making up ward ten in Esit Eket local government area had kind words for the President, Dr. Jonathan and the State Governor, Godswill Akpabio. They expressed optimism that Sir Barr Dan Abia KJW, will deliver upon his mandate.

In his speech, the NDDC MD/CEO, Sir (Barr) Bassey Dan Abia, KJW expressed excitement over the gathering. He called on the people to continue supporting the President Goodluck Jonathan led administration and Governor Akpabio’s led administration at the national and State level respectively. He also called on support for the local government administration.

Abia who was represented by the deputy chairman of Esit Eket chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon (Elder) Eddy Etangkanga, charged the people of Esit Eket to at all times always remember to pray for the leaders of the nation, State and local government areas. He promised that since Abia is not new to leadership, he will deliver on his given mandate.

High point of the event was the passage of a vote of confidence on the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the State Governor Godswill Akpabio.

The motion for the passage of the vote of confidence on the President and Governor was moved by Comrade Jeremiah Edoho Edoho and seconded by Elder Felix Edward. Mouth-watering items ranging from live cow, cash and other valuable gifts were presented to the people by the MD/CEO of NDDC ,Sir (Barr) Bassey Dan Abia, KJW.
