Okobo youths, women commend chairman on skill acquisition training programmes

The recent training of more than one hundred and eighty youths and women of Okobo local government area on various  skill acquisition programmes by the Executive Chairman of the area Princess Felicia Bassey has attracted positive commendations from beneficiaries of the programme and well meaning sons and daughters of the area.

Speaking with our reporter, one of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mrs. Joseph Gregory Ukoh noted that while representatives and other clueless leaders are building their wealth and glory on the suffering of the masses, the chairman of Okobo Local Government Council is busy pursuing vigorously the welfare of her people to turn around their economic woes and lay a solid foundation for the future.

The visibly elated beneficiary who disclosed that the scheme has made her self-employed and created a sense of belonging in the present administration, called on other elected and appointed political office holders within the area to borrow a leaf from the council chairman by floating programmes that would touch the lives of the rural dwellers positively.

Another beneficiary of the programme Effiong Odiong Aman remarked that the beauty of participatory democracy is the ability to touch lives directly and also provide a strategy to discover collective problems of the people and proffer solutions to them. He described Princess Felicia Bassey as an administrator with a milk of human kindness, noting that her kind even after the end of their stay in office, are always encouraged to carry on the banner of selfless services and effective representation, in view of their antecedents and breath-taking achievements while in office.

He added that posterity will not forgive any leader who mortgages the future of the governed on the altar of self-aggrandizement.

Mr. Amah noted that apart from the programme creating jobs for himself and other beneficiaries, it will drastically reduce the number of unemployed youths and take their minds away from crime, violence, restiveness and other social vices capable of truncating the relative peace in the area.

In their separate comments Mr. Emmanuel Effiong Ebenyi, Samuel Cornelius Esio, Rose Bassey Ayah, Nyong Etim Otuong and Sylvia Ibanga Walter lauded the effort of the Okobo Council Chairman in providing succour to the less privileged persons in the area and for making herself accessible for the governor.

The beneficiaries also described Princess Felicia Bassey as a politician with unquestionable democratic credentials and one who is following the footsteps of the state Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio in the area of governance and human development.

The particularly commended the effort of the chairman in repositioning the council through execution of life touching projects and programmes, praying God to endow her with more wisdom, good health and divine direction.
The youths and women were trained in various programmes such as ICT, welding/fabrication, photography, soap making, sewing among others.
