As part of his efforts to ensure that the Nigerian Police meet up with the security challenges of today, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon has donated a generating set, a set of computer, a printer and other accessories to the Etinan Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, for upward transmission to the Command.
The Speaker while presenting the equipment attributed the lingering insecurity in Nigeria to the inadequacy of security personnel and the necessary motivation. While explaining his motivation to digitalize the police command, He said, “This computer and accessories are meant to aid the police in maintaining law and order, even as we strive for a more law-abiding society” According to the Speaker, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Obong Donald Uko, The community made the request for a standby generating set and a computer in the station to help checkmate crime and proper record keeping.
Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of PCRC, Rtd. Gen. Nyoyoko said Elder Ikon’s donation will go a long way in boosting the morale of the police”
While reflecting on his personal relationship with the Speaker, Gen. Nyoyoko who was represented by Chief Akpan Ned stated that the “Speaker is a person that always likes to contribute to the development of the society.” He said that apart from providing the equipment, he had discussed modalities with authorities of the division on how to assist the police with necessary equipment to do their job.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Etinan, CSP Sebastian Donashal while addressing the Committee assured the lawmaker and the Etinan community of effective policing in the area.
The police chief said, “Security is everybody’s business; therefore, individuals and groups have their roles to play.” He solicited for community policing to assist his men in discharging their duties as expected. Mr. Ubong Inyang, who spoke on behalf of the community, thanked the AKHA Speaker for the service provided to his people. He urged other individuals to take a cue from the representative and help in providing other social amenities for the community.
