AKHA speaker charges  investors to enhance quality BY JOSEPH OKON
Emenite to Establish Depot in AKS and Increase Existing ProductionThe Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon has called on Companies operating within Akwa Ibom State to comply with global standards, while asking them to ensure that  their prices are moderate so as to sustain patronage.

The Speaker stated this while playing host to the management team of the Emenite Group of Companies who paid him a courtesy call. Elder Ikon reiterated the State assembly’s resolve to remain committed to partnering with the state Governor, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON to develop the state. He pointed out that the state is safe for investors, arguing that the state assembly in anticipation of the influx of investors passed the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Bill and the Akwa Ibom Investment Holding Corporation bill to secure investments within the state. 
The Honorable speaker used the opportunity to call on Emenite group to work towards erecting their production plant in Akwa Ibom State. “Apart from boosting your presence in the state, it will also create employment opportunities,” The speaker said. He described Akwa Ibom as “fertile ground” for the production and sales of building material, pointing out that with the experience garnered by the company in the sector, he is confident they would always flood the market with quality and affordable product. He particularly commended the company for the skill acquisition training programmes, maintaining that it will go a long way to enhance the lives of the people.

He also warned that the Assembly will not hesitate to move against anyone found guilty of supplying substandard product to the state, describing such acts as unacceptable. Elder Ikon reaffirmed the 5th Assembly’s decision to remain committed and dedicated to serving the people, which he said is reflected in the Bills passed since inauguration.

Earlier in his remark, the Managing Director of the Emenite Group, Mr. Tony Carge informed the assembly of the company’s desire to strengthen the relationship with the Akwa Ibom State government, he also assured the Speaker, that the Emenite Group remains committed to the production of high quality building materials and rendering grade “A” services in the building sector. Mr. Carge however stated that the company cannot succeed without the necessary support and patronage from the state and the people.

Also speaking, the General Manager Marketing, Emenite  Group, Mr. Ifureuwen Udofia  who said the company’s experience in the building sector spans over  fifty years also intimated the Speaker that as part of their civic duties, the company has trained over one thousand youths in Akwa Ibom State, he added that over the years, the company has had a good working relationship with the state government and solicited for better patronage arguing that as a major supplier of quality building materials and service through an indigenous company –UBOTEX,  there’s need to rekindle such business relationship. 

The General Manager of Ubotex, Elder Ubong Obot, and the sole distributor of Emenite Products in Akwa Ibom State in his remarks stated, “The investment we are making through Emenite underscores our confidence in the future of our overall building  business and our commitment to customers for the long-term.  In addition to the significant increase in capacity, this investment will serve to improve our operational efficiency and competitive position in Nigeria.”

Elder Obot stated that Emenite Company Ltd. is moving forward with plans to establish a depot in Uyo, The Akwa Ibom State capital. Construction of the new depot, which will include additional storage and enhanced loading facilities, is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014. The depot is projected to be operational soon thereafter 
“We are pleased Emenite is once again expanding its presence with a new investment in Akwa Ibom State. This substantial investment in Uyo by Emenite is further proof of our commitment to bringing Emenite to the door step of every Akwa Ibom person and create quality jobs for the people in our state.” He said. 

Elder Obot also congratulated the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Governor  Godswill Akpabio on the people oriented projects and policies and referred to the plans by Emenite as a model of public and private cooperation. 

“We are thrilled with Emenite investment plans,” said Obot. “They are an excellent corporate citizen and outstanding community partner. They have worked closely with us to address the pressing needs of our community, including recent efforts to find a solution for our community’s building  situation, while urghing contractors not to patronize sub-standard building materials in discharging their contractual obligations for the state.  
Since it’s incorporation in 1961, the company has gained a wealth of experience. 

And has met with the requirements of the construction industry in promoting the 
Development of Nigeria through the manufacture of high quality products and marketing it’s fibre cement roofing and ceiling products and the supply of high quality goods and services.
