A
team of Google developers in Uyo are set to host an International Developers
Festival tagged DevFest 2013. The Uyo Google Developers Group GDG Uyo) is a
group of information and communication technology experts in Akwa Ibom state
who leverage on technologies by IT giant, Google, to solve local problems and
create jobs. The group’s aim is to create awareness and raise an army of young
ICT-driven entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State and Africa as a whole.
In a
statement by GDG Uyo Lead, Hanson Johnson, the event is scheduled to hold on
21st of September, 2013 at 8:00am in the Multipurpose Hall of Akwa Ibom State
Ministry of Science and Technology, No. 84, Obio Imo Street, Uyo.
GDG
DevFest 2013 Uyo is expected to feature technology talks on Starting a
Corporation, Technology Incubation, Social Media Planning, Gamification and panel
discussions with seasoned entrepreneurs. There will also be code lab sessions
on Android SDK, Cloud Computing using Google App Engine and a session for
locally developed software exhibition.
Mr
Johnson assured that “the group has reached out to investors who are interested
in the next big software idea to be part of the event. Also expected to play a
big part in the event is the newly established Technology Incubation Centre by
the Federal Government, Information Technology Developers Entrepreneurship
Accelerator (iDEA).”
According
to him, apart from shopping for ideas, the Federal Government IT experts are
also expected to expatiate on how developers in the state can take advantage of
the iDEA Hub in Tinappa, Calabar.
Registration
for this year’s Uyo GDG DevFest is free and will end on 15th September, 2013 at
midnight. Intending participants have been advised to register at www.gdguyo.org.
