The
Management Board of Akwa United Football Club has been officially inaugurated
with Hon. Isong Isang still maintaining his position as chairman while Hon. Nse
Ubeh is the vice chairman. Other members of the board were: Barr Chris Essien,
Justice Udousoro, Chief E. E. Ebito, Paul Bassey, Uko Akpabio, Itang Marculey,
Barr. Ubong Adiakpan and Eno Etukudo.
Inaugurating
the management board at the conference room, Bureau of Sports and Youth
Development, last week, the special adviser to the governor on Bureau of Sports
and Youth Development, Hon. Samuel Frank said it has become very necessary and
urgent to appoint people of proven integrity and of diverse background but
gifted in football management to partner with the state government in order to
reposition Akwa united Football Club for greater productivity.
He
said that the appointment of selected people into the Management Board of Akwa
United F.C. was on merit, as it is the hope of the government that they will
contribute their quota for the continuous success of the club.
Mr.
Frank used the opportunity to commend the efforts of the club chairman, Hon.
Isong Isang, technical crew, management and the players of the club for the
feat they have achieved so far in the confederations cup, adding that the hope
of the Bureau and indeed Akwa Ibom State Sports Council is that with the
inauguration of the Board, Akwa United Football Club will compete favourably
with other teams within and outside Nigeria.
Also
speaking, the director of sports, Bureau of Sports and Youths Development,
Coach Aniedi Dickson said the management board was supposed to be inaugurated
since the beginning of the football season noting that at every end of the season
the management board will be reviewed as only effective members will be
retained while others shall be dropped apart from the chairman, Hon. Isong
Isang who was appointed by the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
Responding
on behalf of the members of the management board, Hon. Isong Isang thanked the
special adviser on Bureau of Sports and Youths Development, Hon. Samuel Frank
for appointing other qualified members to work with him as according to him
football business is a team work.
Hon.
Isong Isang who doubles as the SA to the governor on sports matters, thanked
the governor for all his useful contributions and passion for sports
development in the state since inception of the present administration even as
he promised to work with the board members to move Akwa United F.C. to a
greater height.
