ETIM EKPO/IKA STATE CONSTITUENCY: A quest for justice

ETIM EKPO/IKA STATE CONSTITUENCY: A quest for justice

The next general election is few years away and the heat is on. Political parties have perfected plans to ensure victory for themselves and their prospective candidates.

* The people of Ika Local Government Area under the auspices of Ika Voice are seeking for political justice in Ika/Etim Ekpo State Constituency.

* We seek this courtesy of the fact that we need to avoid bad history and we do not wish to be indebted to our younger generation.

* While we acknowledge our peaceful and matured disposition and that of our brothers and sisters from Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, we will appeal that an Ika person be encouraged to the House of Assembly beyond 2015.

* Let us remember that in 2007, both the House of Assembly and House of Representatives positions of Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika were ceded to Ika Local Government Area.

* Our elders from Etim Ekpo had argued that Ika should rather pick one of those positions due to the numerical strength of the area with a promise that a compromise will be reached with Ika people in due course, which is a pre-requisite ingredient and cursor for sustainable development of any community.

* As matured and peace loving people which we in Ika have always been, we opted for the National Assembly (the House of Representatives) seat.

* That agreement saw our son Obongemem Ekperikpe L. Ekpo taking over from Hon. Ezekiel Anaka and Engr. Akanimoh Edet emerged to represent the State Constituency at the House of Assembly in 2007. He took over from another Etm Ekpo son, Obong Hon. Iniobong Ekanem.

* On this note, Ika people have an outstanding slot at the House of Assembly which we believe and appeal to occupy from 2015.

* Our position is that, there is bound to be a repeat of the argument of paragraph six of this peace in 2019 if an Ika person is denied the House of Assembly seat by 2015.

* The reason is that going by the zoning postulation of the Federal Constituency, by 2019 an Ika person will be expected to represent Abak/Ika/Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

* We believe that our Governor Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, our great party and our brothers and sisters from Abak/Ika/Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency will give this quest a good thought.

* Together we stand.
