Udom reassures on workers’ welfare
The Akwa Ibom state  governor-elect Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has promised to sustain and consolidate upon the successes recorded by Governor Godswill Akpabio within the state workforce throughout his tenure.  

Udom in his goodwill message at this year’s workers’ day celebration at the Uyo township stadium, noted that workers’ welfare and wellbeing will be sustained and improved.

He reassured on workers training and re-training to raise the standard of the workforce to meet the competitiveness in the international market. “I want to reassure labour today that the same hand that I will continue to pay salaries as at when due. More and more will be done and we will take care of welfare.”
The governor-elect also thanked the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their unflinching support which culminated in their endorsements of his governorship ambition and ensuring that they all came out enmasse to vote him into office.

 ”I want to thank you people for coming out here today. I also want to thank the out-gone executive of the Nigerian Labour Congress. Right from the day of my being secretary to state government they were not too confrontational, they embraced dialogue, they would always like partnership with the government”.

 The state Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio who was also present at the event was full of thanks to the Labour Movements especially the NLC and TUC for partnering with him throughout his tenure to ensure that Akwa Ibom people are better off.

Surrendering to emotions on his last May Day as a Governor, Chief Akpabio exclaimed,  ”My dear workers, I will miss all of you. I will miss you”.  
Responding, both chairmen of the NLC and TUC Comrade Etim Ukpong and Comrade Akamba Awah respectively thanked the governor for being labour friendly throughout his stay in office and urged the incoming administration of Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to ensure that the cordial relationship between the labour and government is sustained.

 Other speakers at the occasion included the state Comptroller Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Sam Ikon, the State Chief Judge, Secretary to State government Engr Nkeruwem Ekanem, Head of Civil Service Mrs Cecilia Udoessien.

The event featured match past with the salute-taking exercise by the Governor Godswill Akpabio.
