Following the outcome of the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State, a renowned market group in the state, Plantain Sellers Association has congratulated the winner of the election and Governor-Elect, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and his deputy, Obong Moses Ekpo on their victory at the said polls.
This was contained in a letter of congratulation addressed to the governor-elect and signed by the group’s president, Elder (Mrs) Helen Sampson and made available to news men.
According to the letter, the victory of the duo who were candidate/running mate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was well deserved, especially after a well structured campaign that touched every cranny of the state.
Elder (Mrs) Sampson in the letter also noted that the laid down programmes as contained in Udom’s manifesto was too attractive to be taken for granted, especially bearing in mind, his broad connection and intimidating record in the private sector where he had a career.
The group in the letter congratulated Mr Udom Emmanuel on what it termed “a resounding victory” in the recently concluded governorship elections in the state, while also congratulating the PDP on their success in retaining power in the state.
The group further urged the governor elect to submit to a synergy, as well as a good working relationship with the incoming president, General Muhammadu Buhari, so as to create an enabling environment for enough federal presence in the state, especially as the state is transiting into what the politicians term “opposition state”.
The group finally assured Mr Emmanuel and his incoming government of the group’s undeterred loyalty and support in the next four years and even beyond, while advising governor-elect on the need to avoid distractions from favour seeking politicians; and focus on meeting the promises of his campaigns, as the state and its citizenry is expecting so much from him, especially at a time like this when the need for a financially independent state has become dire.
