The member representing Ukanafun/ Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette has allegedly threatened to kill Mr. Eshiet offiong who is the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency that contested election for membership of the House of Representatives on 28th March, 2015; and Mr. Namso R. Udorok who was the collation agent for the APC in ward 13, Oruk Anam LGA during the national assembly election. In a swift reaction to the threats, Offiong and Udorok through their counsel, Felix E. Udoh of Evergreen chambers, Uyo have petitioned the Inspector General of Police. The petition dated 8th May 2015 read in part:
“At about 9:45pm and 10:15pm on 6th May, 2015 Mr. Namso R. Udorok received a call from phone number: 07068122614 wherein Hon. Emmanuel Udoette threatened to deal with our clients
“At about 8:00am on 7th May2015, the said Hon. Emmanuel Udoette through same phone number 07068122614 also called Mr. Namso R. Udorok, stressing and reaffirming his decision to deal with our clients and all those who were All Progressives Congres agents in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency election held on 28th March, 2015.
“Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette is a member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, national Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zion, Garki, Abuja, Federal Capital territory. He is also the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency who contested election on 28th March, 2015 against Mr. Eshiet Offiong of All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The lives of our clients and the All Progressives Congress agents in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency are in great danger.
“In view of the great danger and magnitude of the allegations, we apply to you and your good offices to investigate the allegations and bring to book the person involved in the crime in accordance with the provisions of the Laws of the land.
“Take all necessary actions to protect the lives of our Clients and the All Progressives Congress agents in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
“We hereby place on records that should anything happen to our Clients and/or any of the All Progressives Congress agents in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency; Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette should be held responsible.”
The paper gathered that the bone of contention between Ukoette and the APC members is not unconnected with the allegation that there were no elections in some wards in the federal constituency and where the exercise was held at all, it was marred by irregularities. Udorok and other agents who are armed with bulky and convincing evidence are set to spill the beans before the election petitions tribunal sitting in Uyo. Ukoette who has allegedly threatened fire and brimstone is said to be jittery over the possible ruling by the tribunal.
It would be recalled that on 28th February, 2015 during the governorship campaign at Ikot Ibritam, Ukoette had promised to pierce the eyes of those who would not vote for his party, the People Democratic Party (PDP), the platform the Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC) announced him as the winner of the election which Mr. Eshiet Offiong is challenging at the tribunal.
