Ukanafun House Member-Elect, Otobong Akpan pledges effective representation …receives Certificate of Return

The House of Assembly Member-Elect for Ukanafun State Constituency, Deacon Otobong Jonathan Akpan has pledged to give effective and efficient representation to the good people of Ukanafun State Constituency and vowed to tackle the ever-growing cases of child abuse and human trafficking pervading major streets of Uyo and its environs.

He gave the assurance yesterday in a chart with newsmen after receiving his Certificate of Return from the State’s Residential Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Austin Okojie.

The soft-spoken youthful lawmaker-elect, reassured the good people of Ukanafun that his representation will not only consolidate on the gains of the out-going representation but will also bring extra innovative approaches to bear in the course of his representation, such that will translate to massive development and empowerment of his people.

Speaking on the level of implementation of the state’s Child’ Rights Law, the savvy lawmaker expressed disappointment in the wanton and blatant abuse of children by their parents and guardians, stressing that a  situation where under age children were being sent on a hawking spree on major streets of Uyo and its environs is tantamount to a blatant mockery and a breach of the law for the protection of infants/children, and therefore pledged to tackle such unwholesome anomaly with utmost priority, as soon as he got into the hallowed chamber. 

He used the medium to thank his teeming supporters and campaign team for championing the peoples’ course, saying that he will remain grateful and committed to serving them aright.

Also speaking, his ex campaign Director General, Mr. Shedrach Ekpo, who accompanied him to the venue said that the emergence of a youth in the person of Otobong Akpan was a mark of God’s grace  and another round of people-oriented history in the anal of the state constituency’s representation.
Mr. shedrach who is now perceived as the Special Adviser/ Head of Protocol to the member-elect, further expressed optimism that Otobong representation would mark a turning point in the lives of Ukanafun youths who, according to him have hitherto been subjected to perennial marginalization by their political warlords.

Speaking on the major thrust of the in-coming administration of Otobong Akpan, the vibrant ex-student leader hinted that his principal would focus on massive infrastructural development, human capacity empowerment, job creation for the teeming youths of Ukanafun, care and respect for elders as well as vocal representation on the floor of the House, among others.

He urged the good people of the area to remain steadfast and prayerful as the in-coming representation which was going to run an all-inclusive government would accommodate their felt needs and add value to their lives.

While describing Mr. Otobong Akpan as a vibrant, intelligent and God fearing gentleman, he also commended the role the out-going administration of Elder Aniekan Akpan played in the emergence of Otobong Akpan and pledged total loyalty and respect for him amongst other political leaders of the area. 

      His words “The emergence of Otobong Jonathan Akpan as the member-elect for Ukanafun State Constituency is not by his might or power but by God’s special grace. It’s a mark of another phase of history for the good people of Ukanafun especially the youths. He is coming as a real change agent but not the one of APC, to bridge the gap of senior man syndrome, amongst others. I am saying this because as I know him, he is not a man of many words but a man of action. Therefore, Ukanafun people should expect positive and effective representation in all ramifications’’, he added.
