AKSG approves construction of internal roads in COE
Akwa Ibom Government has approved  immediate construction of internal roads and recruitment of more lecturers in the state College of Education, Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

Governor Godswill O. Akpabio, who announced this Saturday during the sixth convocation of the college, recalled how the state government had provided internal roads and other basic amenities in the University of Uyo and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, saying this gesture would be replicated in the college in line with the uncommon transformation policy of the state government.

Akpabio commended the Provost of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Dr. Patrick J. Uko for working assiduously to ensure that this institution to remain a centre of academic excellence, noting that ‘’The projects we are inaugurating today are indications that the uncommon transformation spirit at work in the State has infected the management of this College. We are proud of you and your team, we are proud of your achievements, records and giant strides.

‘’As a State, we understand that education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world. This explains why we consider the development of the education sector as a panacea in the transformation of our society and why it has a prime place our policies. This administration in the last eight years has accorded topmost priority to the development of this institution as a training pool for teachers and expected manpower to complement the free and compulsory education programme in the State. We are, therefore, unrelenting in our commitment and efforts of providing the needed infrastructure to ensure that this College meets our collective expectations’’, he pointed out.


To the graduating students, the governor remarked ‘’This convocation brings you to a junction in your life – your journey as a student in this institution terminates here and your career begins here. One phase of your life ends here, and another phase of your life begins here. Do remember that in the phase of life, which now beckons, abounds countless opportunities for you to contribute to our free and compulsory education programme in particular, and the uncommon transformation of our state in general. We, therefore, look forward with hope that your advent will boost our human resource capacity in the education sector. Therefore, let us take pride in this occasion and savour the joy of your achievement. But let me caution you that you should remember that a good name is better than gold and those who teach should remain role models to those they teach.

‘’Let me warmly congratulate the graduating students on their meritorious success, having scaled through the hurdles and crucibles of academic rigors. My advice to you today is that you should strive

in all circumstances to retain and develop the excellent scholarly attributes that have been imparted to you in the past few years. I charge you not to rest on your oars but strive to better your lot further in the acquisition of knowledge in order to add more feathers to your cap. You are the epistle that have been written by this Institution, carry the message in your hearts, and let the world read in you what will cause it to celebrate this great institution. I charge you, therefore, to be good ambassadors of your alma mater’’, Akpabio added.

The Provost of the college, Dr. Patrick J. Uko lauded the Federal and state governments for adopting quality education as instrument par excellence for the development and emancipation of the people and commended Governor Akpabio foe raising the bar for teachers in the their career up to level 17, approving the implementation of enhanced Teachers Salary Scale (TSS), ensuring massive renovation of schools, promoting teachers welfare and appointment of teachers as permanent secretaries.

Dr. Uko who hinted that the college has been affiliated to the University of Uyo for award of degree in some science subjects appealed to the state governor to assist them in providing internal road network and drainages, street light (solar light), relocation of a big market opposite the college, expansion of the medical centre to match the degree awarding status, sponsorship of French students for Language Immersion Programme in Togo as well as car and hosing loan schemes, among others.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Lawrence Etim thanked the governor for numerous forms of assistance given to the college and other donors and appealed to the government to assist the college in getting accreditation for more courses.

Meanwhile, the best graduating student of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area has bagged automatic employment with effect from June 1, this year in addition to automatic scholarship award.

She is Ruth Love Christopher who graduated from Integrated Science and Computer Science during the 2014/2015 academic session of the college.
Miss Christopher who thanked the institution for giving them an enabling environment to operate called on the state government to employ more quality lecturers, pledging to be good ambassadors of the college wherever they go. 

About 4,000 students convoked during the ceremony while two persons- Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien and Engr. Asuqo Udofia bagged fellowship awards from the institution.
