Ahead of the May 29, 2015 inauguration date of Udom Emmanuel as the Executive Governor of Akawa Ibom State, the youths of Akwa Ibom under the aegis of Akwa Ibom U62 have thrown their weight behind the Governor-elect, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and mapped out blueprint for active participation in the in-coming administration.
In an enlarged assembly in Uyo, the ever most vibrant, articulate and energetic, professionals, entrepreneurs, businessmen, top young politicians including other Akwa Ibom youth representatives in Local Government Areas in the state made reference to the 1st ever Youth Converge in Akwa Ibom State that gave birth to what they called “The Udom Resign & Contest Movement” which marked the turning point in the mobilization of the entire state in support of Udom Emmanuel’s Governorship ambition and declared their readiness to give maximum support for the success of the Udom’s administration in its 1st four years and beyond.
Interacting with pressmen at the venue of the youths assembly, a leading member of the Akwa Ibom U62, Hon. Barr. Mfon Udeme who is also one of the frontline members and conveners of the 1st Ever Youth Converge that pressured Udom to Resign and Contest the governorship race expressed gratitude to the electorate and all Akwa Ibom people for voting massively for Udom Emmanuel and the PDP and also called on the youths in particular to get ready to rise and defend their investment in the Governor-elect.
Barr. Udeme, himself a Former Ibiono Ibom Council Chairman and National Legal Adviser II of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA) used the occasion to congratulate the Governor-elect, Mr. Udom Emmanuel whom he referred to as “Our Principal”.
When asked about his expectations concerning the in-coming Udom’s administration, Barr. Mfon Udeme had this to say: “gentlemen, firstly, I sincerely appreciate you for coming around. As you can see, this is a conglomeration of the best brains in terms of Akwa Ibom youths, these are men and women who dared to strongly declare their unalloyed support to Our Principal, Udom Emmanuel, the Governor-elect when many chose to sit on the fence. Therefore, as persons who are at the forefront of the Udom’s Governorship Project, our mission here is to appraise the situation after the elections and to get set to actively participate in ensuring that the government of Udom Emmanuel achieves a resounding success in its first four years and beyond. Of course, we toiled and work very hard to get to this level, and as such we have a duty to rise in full support of what we worked for so that others who took delight in sitting on the fence do not come and spoil the project for us”.
In a congratulatory message to the Governor-elect endorsed by leaders of the Akwa Ibom U62 made available to the press after the youths assembly, they prayed for God’s power and protection on the Governor-elect, his wife and entire family. Part of the congratulatory message reads: Today, we are bold to acknowledge that the Udom Resign and Contest Movement which was a watershed that marked the turning point in the history of youth mobilization in the state is ever so firmly anchored on our wholehearted trust and confidence in your track record, divinely ordained capacity to revolutionized youth participation in governance and thereby liberate the people from the shackles of joblessness.
