Ika rejects APC, reaffirms total support for Udom, Ukarakpa, ors
...says they cannot be lured into witchcraft, falsehood

BY ABASIFREKE OBOT

Indigenes of Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State , on Friday, reaffirmed total support for Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is also the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Senatorial Candidate of PDP for Ikot Ekpene, Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong (a.k.a Ukarakpa), and all other standard bearers of the Party in the State.

The people, who made known their stance in Ika Local Government Area during the Divine Mandate campaign rally at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Urua Inyang, said Governor Udom, since assumption of office in 2015, has never lied to them rather, he has kept to all his promises and even beyond the promises.

The indigenes described the All Progressives Congress (APC) symbol, the broom, as a sign of witchcraft, and the party’s promises for the people, which was made through Obong Nsima Ekere and Senator Akpabio when they both occupied the offices of the deputy governor and the governor respectively, as falsehood.

They added that the duo, even when opportune to serve as MD of NDDC and the Senator speaking for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District respectively, showed no remorse for failed representation but went ahead to play on the intelligence of the masses.

Noting that they cannot be lured into falsehood and the broom party, which they earlier opined was a symbol for witchcraft, Ika people reiterated that they will support the Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking at event, the Executive Chairman of Ika, Hon Anthony Udousung, thanked the Governor for the numerous road constructions in the area, which, he explained has brought about smooth transportation of goods into and out of the area against the plights of the indigenes in the past.

He also appreciated the governor for the provision of electric poles and wires in various communities, noting that as at the time of the last administration, the people were living in darkness.

Udousung spoke on the absolute peace enjoyed by the people and assured the governor that the people are grateful for the developments in the area and will support and vote for him.

While he further declared support for the PDP Candidate, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Engr. Christopher Ekpenyong; Hon. Aniekan Umana, Federal House Hopeful for Abak/Ika/Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency; Elder Mfon Idung, House of Assembly Candidate for Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency and all other candidates of the party, he stressed that out of the 44,000 votes Ika will deliver at the polls, the opposition will not have up to 200 votes because the votes have already been dedicated to the PDP.

On his part, The Chapter Chairman, Mr. Iboro Nelson stated strongly that in the history of Ika Local Government, Governor Udom is the first ever governor  to  ensure the  construction and completion of roads in the area.

Nelson, who expressed happiness over  the current state of the area, also reiterated that Governor Udom is the only governor that came  into government and addressed the issue of power in the area.

He said the people will rather support Governor Udom who has proven himself a dedicated and selfless leader against those obsessed with their personal interest.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Udom appreciated the people for their show of love and support for his government, adding the crowd is worth the assurance that the area is entirely PDP.

For what he described as the peaceful disposition of the youths in their bid to defend the area and its boundaries, Gov. Udom pledged to host the youths of the area to a special treat before the elections.

The governor further promised that in his second term in office, he will renew what he described as a social contract with the youths, emphasised  more job creation and empowerment for the people.

The PDP guber. candidate said he will up set an agro allied factory in the area in order to boost the internally generated revenue of area and the employment opportunities for indigenes.

While he assured the women who are yet to benefit from the free interest loan to the tune of over N300,000, to be rest assured that their names will be shortlisted for the loan, he advised the entire indigenes to keep faith with the party as more developments and prosperity will sweep through the area.
