Abasienyene 2019 Campaign Organization petitions security agencies
The Abasienyene 2019 Campaign Organization has petitioned the security agencies in the state on the plan by the APC to “ criminalise the legitimate political activities” of Barr Otobong Effiong Bob who is seeking election into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of Department of State Services, the campaign organization opine that the evil arrangement by the APC is to attempt to create a scenario where the campaign organization will be seen as engaging in violent acts, a situation that could lead to a framed-up arrest, detention and possible prosecution of Barr Otobong Effiong Bob and his supporters.
According to the petition, sources within the APC reveal that the intention of the sponsors of the evil act will be the use of gangsters who will drive in fake PDP branded vehicles that will be loaded with arms and other dangerous weapons and will subsequently create an ugly scene leading to their arrest.
However, on their arrest, the miscreants will claim to have been sponsored by Barr Otobong Effiong Bob to attack the campaign team of the APC.
The campaign organization considers this to “be a criminal, illegal, undemocratic and unacceptable”.
It went further to say that “while our candidate and his team are going about campaigning for votes from village to village, ward to ward, unit to unit and from house to house in a very orderly and peaceful manner, the APC leadership within the constituency and the state at large is alleged to be strategising on how to disrupt the oncoming election and allocate to itself victory it has not worked for by criminalising our candidate”.
The campaign organization vouched for Barr Otobong Effiong Bob by saying that he would never resort to acts of criminality stating that the campaign organization is following due process and the existing rules on electioneering emphasizing that nothing will make it depart from the path of legality and civility.
The organization called on Security agencies to urgently intervene and investigate these allegations and take necessary actions to arrest the situation and that anyone found culpable should be made to face the full weight of the law.
