The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Lady Emem Ibanga has emerged as the Akwa Ibom Sports Chairman of the Year 2018.
Hon. Lady Emem Ibanga emerged ahead of Hon. David David Eshiet of Ikot Abasi and Hon. Prince Ubong Idiong of Oruk Anam who were all nominated by the State Chapter of the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).
A statement signed by the State Chairman of YSFON, Elder Uwem Ekoh and PRO, Mr. Theophilus Udo indicates that the Award Presentation Ceremony will take place at the Chairman’s office, Nsit Atai on Monday, 4th February, 2019.
By her emergence according to the statement, Hon. Lady Emem Ibanga has become the first female Chairman in the state to be honoured with the prestigious award since its inception about ten years ago. It would be recalled that Lady Emem Ibanga single-handedly sponsored FEYReP Queens of Akwa Ibom State to 2018 edition of MASM National Under-17 Female Tournament in Ibadan, Oyo State. Some of the past winners of the award include; Dr. John Ekott (Ikot Abasi), Rt. Hon. Anthony Akan (Uruan), Pastor Joshua Eyo Asuquo (Nsit Ibom), Arch. Ufot Udoinyang, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen (Abak).
Speaking with journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), the Secretary, Mr. Isonguyo Iniodu stated that the award was instituted to encourage grassroot sports development in the state.
Mr. Iniodu hinted that the Akwa Ibom Sports Lawmaker of the Year will be named next week.
The State YSFON Scribe listed names of the nominees for Sports Lawmaker Award to include; Hon. Prince Idongesit Ituen (Itu), Hon. Nse Essien (Onna), Rt. Hon. Mark Esset (Nsit Atai) and Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh (Esit Eket).
He used the occasion to congratulate Hon. Lady Emem Ibanga and called on her to continue to beam this light of hope to the teeming sports family.
