Political Leader scores Nigeria high on democracy

As Nigeria celebrates its fifteen years of  uninterrupted demonstration of democracy, a security expert and political leader in Eket, Otuekong, Brig. General Anthony Etukudo (Rtd) has scored the country high irrespective of the security challenges facing the Nation.

Speaking with newsmen in his residence in Eket on Monday, the retired Army General said that democracy as the best form of Government on earth has flourished steadily in Nigeria as could be seen in total freedom of the press, the independence of the judiciary, rapid infrastructural development and a robust economy with a potentiality of greatness.

Otuekong Etukudo, a former Chairman of the standard organization of Nigeria and an officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) felicitated President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio for their sustained efforts in transforming the country.

He paid particular tribute to President Jonathan for the introduction of a power Road Map and subsequent Privatization of the Power Sector which has seen to an improved steady supply of electricity in some p
arts of the country including Akwa Ibom State lately, which has yielded result. 
General Etukudo who recalls transforming the standard organization of Nigeria from a department in a ministry to a parastatal said if the present situation in the power sector is maintained and improved upon, the microeconomic status of the country will jump astronomically because small and medium scale industries will strive.

On security, General Etukudo said the Boko Haram insurgency which is a threat to the unity of the country will soon be a thing of the past if every Nigerian is security conscious and willing to put a stop to the menace.

The security expert called on the Federal Government to implore the option of dialogue in the release of the over 200 abducted girls of Government Secondary School Chibok as a full military confrontation with the hoodlums will endanger the lives of the innocent girls.


He called on all Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper and report to the Law enforcement agencies suspicious persons and movements in their environment, adding that the military should be adequately equipped to perform the task and that Nigeria’s neighbouring countries should not have sympathy on Boko Haram.

Otuekong Anthony Etukudo said there are some security tips which should not be made public on the pages of newspaper and that as a combatant soldier who has fought many wars, he has proffered a lasting solution to the menace of the sect to appropriate authorities.
“Some countries are benefiting from the present security situation facing the country and I am sure the commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Jonathan knows it, that’s why he convoked the meeting held recently in France. We will get over it sooner or later”, he said.
