Esuene charges NSE on collapse buildings

Sen. Helen Esuene, Senator representing Eket Senatorial District Tuesday charged the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and other professional bodies to tackle building collapse in the country.

Esuene gave the charge during a courtesy visit on her by the members of NSE, Eket branch led by the Chairrman, Mr Thompson Manam in her office at Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
She said that Nigerian Society of Engineers should work with other professionals to curb collapse of building in the nation.

According to her, this will not only check the menace of building collapse and saves lives usually lost to such incidents but will also save the professionals from embarrassment.

She lamented the situation where experts and professionals use sub standard materials to build in recent times which had led to upsurge in building collapse in the country.

“Sustainable industrialization is very key and we don’t want to build houses that will collapse next year, that is not sustainable and anything that need to done in industrialization must be correct.
“I want to urge you to do the right thing at the right time and work as team because that is when you can get it right,’’ She said.

The Senator who described Engineering as a noble professions all standard while advising the leadership of NSE to always encourage the young ones in engineering sector.
According to her, engineers are the key to infrastructural developers in Akwa Ibom in general and Nigeria at large.

She said that members of the NSE should work as a team in order to sustain the infrastructural development in the state.

“NSE should work as a team in order to deliver effective services to Akwa Ibom and the nation infrastructural developmental projects,’’ She said.

Earlier, Manam, Eket branch chairman of NSE, said that the Eket branch new secretariat is on-going and that NSE in the area is 12 years old with 250 members and among the 58 branches nationwide.
Manam represented by his vice, Mr. Godwin Umoh highlighted some of the week programmes line up to include: industrial visit to Julius Berger construction company in Uyo, presentation of technical papers, career counseling  to secondary schools in Eket among other programmes

Manam said NSE won the third best branch award from the National body of Engineers.
He said that the National has granted Akwa Ibom the hosting right of Annual General Meeting and Conference which would hold in 2016.
