Igbo Chieftaincy title for Akpabio

The story of uncommon transformation in Akwa Ibom has continued to gather momentum as more groups have continued to appreciate Governor Godswill Akpabio for his excellent performance in the State.

The latest of the group which have indicated willingness to honour the Governor is the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who dropped the hint to journalists, during a briefing in Uyo, said the decision by the Union to honour the Governor, was contained in a letter jointly signed by its National President, Dr. Danjuma Musa and the General Secretary, Muhammad Ishiyaku Sheikh.

Mr. Umanah, quoted the organizers of the award as saying that the choice of Governor Akpabio, was unanimously taken during the National Executive Council of the Union in Abuja, in recognition of his developmental strides in Akwa Ibom State.

Similarly, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu has also offered to honour Governor Godswill Akpabio with an award, recognizing him as West Africa’s Most Transformational Leader, alongside a chieftaincy title of Ezigbo Ogo Ndi Igbo.

The Information Commissioner, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, said the nomination for the award, was contained in a notice sent by Eze Ihenetu, who described Chief Akpabio as Nigeria’s foremost development-oriented politician.

According to the letter, the Governor’s sectoral implementation strategy has tremendously transformed Akwa Ibom into a modern economy, with impact felt in the areas of education, infrastructure and health, as well as tourism, skills acquisition and agriculture.

The award ceremony, which will be part of the Igbo Cultural and Diaspora Summit, is slated for 29th and 31st August, 2014, in Accra, Ghana.

The last seven years of Chief Godswill Akpabio as Governor in Akwa Ibom has witnessed unprecedented renaissance in physical infrastructure and enhanced socio-economic activities in the State.
