A’Ibom 2015: Afe Annang backs Zoning
As the build –up to the 2015 general elections gathers momentum, a foremost socio-cultural group in Akwa Ibom State, the Afe Annang has reaffirmed its support to the emergence of the next Governor of the State from Eket Senatorial District.

The Itai Afe Annang, Okuku Pius Effiong Eside said the decision of Afe Annang to support Eket Sentorial District came as a result of its belief in equity and fairness in the distribution of the commonwealth of the state.

Speaking while receiving the steering committee of Akwa Ibom South(Eket) Senatorial District Assembly on a thank you visit to the Afe Annang, the Annang Monarch acknowledged the support of Eket Senatorial District to the emergence of their son the present governor from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, but advised the different ethnic groups in the senatorial district to bury their ethnic differences and embrace love and unity in order to succeed in 2015.


Okuku Eside warned the Eket Senatorial District stakeholders to expect some level of blackmail from certain quarters by those who are unhappy with the mission of the group, but advised that they should remain undaunted in helping to select a credible candidate from among their sons and daughters to take Akwa Ibom State to the next level.

Earlier, the Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District Assembly had assured of her readiness to partner other stakeholders in the State to ensure the emergence of a worthy replacement for Governor Godswill Akpabio from Eket Senatorial District in 2015.

The Chairman of the Assembly, Chief Nduese Essien maintained that the decision of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to zone the 2015 governorship seat to Eket Senatorial District, was made possible as a result of the overwhelming support to the idea by the Itai Afe Annang and stakeholders of the Annang nation, adding that the Annang leaders have clearly demonstrated solidarity for justice and equity as a panacea for peace and steady development of the state.

While expressing gratitude to the Afe Annang, he advised that it was not the responsibility of the Assembly to unilaterally produce a successor for Governor Akpabio, and invited all stakeholders in the state to assist in the process of ensuring that a most suitable Governor emerges from the district in 2015.

Also Speaking, the deputy Chairman Ambassador Etim Uye and a former Commissioner for Works in the State Chief Obot Etukafia, expressed pleasure at the high level of achievements recorded by Governor Akpabio in the State and assured the Afe Annang that their mission was to produce a governor that will strive to surpass the development of the present government.
