Govt Cautions Against Destruction Of Public Facilities

Akwa Ibom State government has cautioned against noticeable destruction of permanent remodeling works in the road corridor at Nwaniba Road-Edet Akpan Avenue, popularly known as Four Lane, and Ikot Ekpene Road, from Eka Street Junction to Ikot Ekpene-Ikpa Road-UNIUYO and Wellington Bassey Way, all in Uyo.
The caution was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan, who said the ugly trend, if not checked, was capable of undermining the urban renewal efforts of the Akpabio administration.

According to him, findings by government and its development partners indicate that the green areas, kerbs and sidewalks, have been destroyed by the activities of careless tricycle riders, taxi drivers and hawkers.
The Commissioner said, it has been noted that "the entire area has become unsanitary and eyesore on the urban landscape," noting also that pedestrian bridges are not being used in safe manner, as school children have been observed climbing over the stairs and parapets.

Consequently, Mr. Umanah advised citizens to desist from destroying the public facilities provided at huge costs for the beautification and benefits of Uyo people. He stressed that government would not hesitate to punish offenders.
