AKAMBA Awah fetes motherless on birthday

It was an afternoon of massive endorsements, prayer of blessings and more successes and commendations for the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Akwa Ibom state, Comrade Akamba Awa as he clocked fifty, when he kept to his usual tradition of celebrating his birthday with inmates of the Lutheran Church Children’s Home at Ikot Ntong Nsit, in Nsit Ibom Local Government.

Speaking at the event, a former legislator in Nsit Ibom local Government area, Hon Nsikak Ikpe said he was impressed by the exemplary affectionate disposition of the labour leader whom he said had developed the habit of identifying with inmates of orphanages on a frequent basis.

The erstwhile lawmaker said his choice to visit inmates of orphanages in the rural area was particularly instructive as these homes were not fortunate not witness frequent visits as their counterparts in the urban areas, as a result of their location.
Hon Ikpe described Comrade Akamba as a labour leader who has etched his name on the books of posterity as one of the few brilliant labour leaders who is constantly on the lookout for ways to deploy activism for the pursuit of some laudable societal goals.

He said such a trait has qualified him as a servant; hence the massive calls on him by the people of Nsit Ibom to represent the area at the House of Assembly.
Friends of the Comrade Akamba Awa cutting across people from different walks of life showered glowing encomiums on the labour leader describing him as a thorough-bred social campaigner who was driven by the desire to bequeath a better society for the present and future generations.
With what I have seen here today I want to assure you that we will come back to this orphanage by next week to assist in improving the welfare of these precious children. Our leader, comrade Akamba Awa has laid for the union a very good example and we will follow his steps.

For us in the Construction sector, we will make this orphanage our second home. As for the aspiration of our leader we want to plead with the good people of Nsit Ibom to send him to the Akwa ibom state house of assembly if not for anything else, for the sake of these wonderful children whom God has blessed, for him to sponsor bills one of which will positively affect the collective destinies of orphans in the state” the President of the Construction workers union remarked.

Others who spoke at the event urged Comrade Akamb Awa not to renege in his effort at pressing for a better society even as they also called on him to make good his promise of sponsoring a bill that will better the lots of orphans in the state.

“We know you will clinch the position of the lawmaker to represent Nsit Ibom at the Akwa ibom state House of Assembly, but we plead with you on behalf of these children to make the orphan bill your first major bill at the House.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Akamba Awa said he was there at the home to thank God with the orphans who have become members of his extended family, on his attainment of the glorious age of fifty.

He said his decision to always visit the home was to identify with the special children and get to find out areas of needs of the children with a view to offering his modest assistance.

He vowed to use his future positions in life to offer hope to the children, stressing that he has always nursed the desire to sponsor a bill that will place all the orphans in the state on a social security package that will cater for their education and arm the with skills to be self-reliant.

“I stand here to pledge on my honour that when God blesses me with a greater position, I will deploy such a position to social campaigning with a view to offering renewed hope to people who may have given up on life. Top on my agenda is to sponsor a bill that will seek change the collective destinies of orphans and children with special needs in the state. The fact that they are orphans does not make them less of human beings. I see Governors, Doctors, Engineers and world changers here among them. But then if we don’t offer them hope through well-articulated programmes of actions, they may give up on life.” The TUC boss posited.
