Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for
Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has advised those in
positions of authority to make every effort towards leaving good
legacies, so that they could be remembered after their tenure.
Mr. Umanah, who made the call lastweek, when he inaugurated the NUJ Viewing and Recreation Centre, at Information Drive, IBB Avenue, Uyo, said leadership was about impacting the lives of people.
He emphasized the need for public office holders to emulate the exemplary leadership of Governor Godswill Akpabio, which he noted, has transformed Akwa Ibom State and has given the people a sense of belonging.
The
Commissioner also said that he was impressed with the leadership
performance of the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,
Elder Patrick Albert, especially his efforts towards sanitizing the
profession.
Mr. Umanah equally gave kudos to him for his initiative in setting up a viewing and relaxation centre for journalists in Akwa Ibom, saying the facility will create a platform for journalists to relax after their assignments, in addition to engendering the spirit of togetherness among the professionals.
The Information Boss, who was accompanied by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, Barr. Onyekachi Ubani, reminded his colleagues of the need for them to always be objective, accurate and fair in their reportage, as a way of deepening democracy in the country.
On his part, Barr. Ubani, while making his remarks on the occasion acknowledged the infrastructural renaissance in Akwa Ibom, noting that while many other second term governors were no longer interested in projects, Governor Akpabio is still making progress with major projects in the State.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Elder Patrick Albert lauded the Commissioner, Mr. Aniekan Umanah; and his Ministry of Justice counterpart, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim, as well as the Special Adviser, Bureau of Technical Matters, Engr. Etido Inyang and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Pastor Anietie Ukpe, for their contributions and support to the Union.
While promising to ensure adequate protection of the facility, he said his mission was to leave NUJ better than he met it when he came into office.
