New Uyo-Abak bridge ready for inauguration

The Multi billion naira Uyo Abak River Bridge at Ediene in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom handled by Julius Berger Construction Company is ready for inauguration.

The Chief Contract Manager of the company, Mr Kehinde Bakare stated this when Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eket Branch team paid an industrial visit to Julius Berger Construction Company, Abak on Thursday.

He said that the 700 meters suspended bridge which started in 2012 would be inaugurated by Sept 23, 2014.

Bakare who described the bridge as “aesthetic and strategic”, said that bridge would serve as a major link on the road between Uyo and Abak.

According to him, the Uyo Abak Bridge is the tallest bridge in Akwa Ibom with 50 meters high and 342.5 meters long.

Bakara who explained aspects of the job using master plan said that the dual carriage bridge links the newly constructed Abak - Uyo road.

On the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, he said the stadium would contain 30,000 spectators, adding that the work has reached electrification stage.

Bakare said that currently 780 people had been employed at the stadium, noting that the stadium would also be inaugurated along side with Uyo Abak river bridge.

He said that the “all covered’’ main bowl would consist of a four-tier terrace seating arrangement, saying that the stadium can accommodate over 20,000 parking lots.

In his remark, Mr Thompson Manam, Chairman of NSE, expressed satisfaction at the progress of the construction work at the Ibom International Stadium.

He expressed hope that the contractors would deliver the project within the time line of Sept. 2014 while commending the company for the visit.
