 * Meets ex Gov. Attah, explains grouse with Akwa Ibom Governor

The nation’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had met exclusively with Obong Attah in Abuja to discuss on matters bothering the country, the PDP and Akwa Ibom state. The meeting which was held behind closed doors was at the instance of the President who is said to have prevailed on Obong Attah not to dump the PDP which he helped to birthed as a founding father. The President is said to have also sought the support of Obong Attah in his leadership of the country and his future political moves.

Sources say Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had to institute the meeting with the ex Akwa Ibom Governor with the wake of the recent and massive decampment of politicians from the party and also with the information that the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), were putting Obong Attah under pressure to dump the Umbrella party for them. Although those who are close to Attah said the former Akwa Ibom Governor was not considering joining the APC, political pundits in the corridors of Aso Rock Villa explained to our reporter in Abuja that the President of the country is not leaving anything to chance in his quest to unite every member of the party.

At the meeting with Obong Attah, the President is said to have expressed bitterness with the state Governor, Obong Godswill Akpabio whom he informed Attah was playing tortoise politics. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is said to have maintained that he wants Obong Attah to be actively involved in the affairs of the PDP both at home and at the national level. The president is said to have used that opportunity to reiterate his decision to ensure that he leaves Nigeria far better than he met it when he took over as acting President before becoming the President. On Akpabio, the president is said to have shown worries that the Akwa Ibom Governor cannot be trusted especially as the 2015 election draws closer.

More details of the discussion between the President and the Ex-Governor of Akwa Ibom State were not known even as at press time. But those who should know informed that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must have had a more than enough fruitful discussion with the former Governor especially as the new PDP Chairman, AlhajiMu’azu, a former Governor of Bauchi state is a known ally of Obong Attah. Sources also told THE INK that with the array of northern friends and associates commanded by Obong Attah, it may be difficult for Godswill Akpabio to play his 2015 political game at the National level and at the state level especially now that President Jonathan wants Obong Attah to be involved in the political calculation.

The reported anger of the President on the state Governor had further confirmed the fears that all is not well between Gov. Akpabio and the nation’s first family.
