Workers under the aegis of Parliamentary Staff Association (PASAN) have advocated for the adoption of a Special Salary Structure by Akwa Ibom State government to Parliamentary and Assembly Service Commission staffs.
The State Chairman, Parliamentary Staff Association, (PASAN), Comrade Kufre-Abasi Aderi made this known during the first parliamentary staff week celebration held at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly complex.
Comrade Aderi noted that in recognition of the enormous duties carried out by parliamentary staffs, the National Assembly had in July 2010 adopted a “Special Salary Structure” for its workers including staff of the Assembly Service Commission adding that a letter dated 23rd Sept., 2014 directing implementation of Legislature Salary Structure (CONLESS) was addressed by the Clerk of the National Assembly to the Clerk of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
While calling on the state government to follow states like Nasarawa, Gombe, Plateau who have since started implementing the directive, Comrade Aderi enjoined the State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio to graciously implement ‘Part A’ of the 35% Legislature Duty allowance (LDA) to Parliamentary staff.
He also noted that PASAN was the only industrial Union in the State that has not benefited from the magnanimity of the governor in terms of provision of Union utility buses and called on Chief Akpabio to aid the Union exco with the mini bus and a coaster bus to Assembly staff.
According to him, the Assembly has recorded successes due to the cordial relationship between staff and lawmakers which has been portrayed during budget presentation, budget defense, appropriation at Committee levels and other legislature procedures while also thanking the State governor for approving the week-long celebration.
He used the occasion to thank the Speaker of the Assembly, Elder Sam Ikon and other lawmaker for their roles at discharging legislative functions and also commended the Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. Mandu Umoren for discharging her duties creditably.
