Film Makers in Akwa Ibom State have been charged to always sought to package and produce films that tend to project the rich cultural values of the state and to shun the temptation of projecting gangsterism, banditry, prostitution and other social vices through movies.
The Personal Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Essien Ndueso stated this after being conferred with an “Award of Excellence in Media Development” by Akwa Ibom Film Makers Association, (AKFIMAA) in recognition of his contribution to the growth of the media industry in the state.
Receiving the award, Mr. Essien Ndueso, thanked the AKFIMA 2014 award organizers for finding him worthy of the honour and dedicated the award to up and coming Akwa Ibom Film Makers.
While appreciating Governor Godswill Akpabio for finding him worthy to serve in his administration as his media aide, Mr. Ndueso reminded the film makers that the present administration under governor Akpabio has put in place the necessary infrastructure that promotes tourism as well as enhance the activities of Movie producers in the state.
He listed the Tropicana Entertainment center, Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, massive roads network, the Ibom International Airport, e-library, Urban remodeling and concentric flyovers dotting the state capital, the brand new international stadium and as well as the Sheraton by 4 point hotel in Ikot Ekpene which is nearing completion and Ikot Ekpene City Plaza among other several public facilities as good location for film production.
He urged producers in the movie industry in the state to take advantage of these facilities in order to help project the tourism potentials of the state to the outside world, as partners in the uncommon transformation agenda of the Akpabio led administration.
The award ceremony held Friday (19th December, 2014) at SAMLAW Hotel, IBB WAY, Uyo under the auspices of Akwa Ibom Film makers Award. AKFIMA 2014, also witnessed the conferment of several awards to over 100 recipients for excelling in their various field of endeavor.
Presenting the award to the recipient, President of AKFIMA, Mr. Akan wise-men, said the award ceremony which has now come to stay as an annual event was an initiative of Akwa Ibom movie practitioners which seeks to recognize our film makers and bring about unity amongst the members of the entertainment community.
He further explained that the essence of the event was to create a platform where the government entertainers and their respective parastatals would come together to chart the way forward for the progress of the state’s economy and the movie industry.
He congratulated the governor’s aide and other award nominees for being selected for recognition by Akwa Ibom movie producers.
Other award recipients who carted home various awards for excelling in their choosen field alongside the governor’s aide. Include, Mr. Mitchel Ofumata of Amaecom Global Ltd. Mr. Nature Udoh, Etubom Daniel Jackson, Mr. Christopher Stephen Esin, alias (XTO) Radio diva, Emilia Ojemudia of Atlantic FM, Ambassador Samuel Akpan, an on air personality of Akwa Ibom Decide Fame and Politics today, among others.
The event featured drama presentation and other varieties of entertainment.
