Reps 2015: Ukanafun/Oruk Anam youth vanguard explodes over zoning

Reps 2015: Ukanafun/Oruk Anam youth vanguard explodes over zoning

A socio-political organization in the state, Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Youth vanguard has emphasized that it is only zoning that can bring justice, peace and equity to the people of the federal constituency.

A release signed by Akan Udoudo and Ifiok Akpan made available to newsmen in Uyo, the youth group stated that zoning has been a time –honoured arrangement among the people of the federal constituency who have enjoyed harmonious peaceful co-existence long before the division of the people into two Local Government Areas. The group advised the people not to allow selfish interest to override the collective peace of the majority.

The youth vanguard clearly and emphatically drummed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Deacon Eshiet Offiong who is vying to represent the people of the Federal Constituency in House of Representatives in 2015. The group described Offiong as a humble and down-to-earth gentleman who is at home with the grassroots, stating that in terms of pedigree that Offiong has the capacity and competence to give the people effective representation that has been lacking. The group advised the people not to sacrifice competence on the alter of selfish ambition which seeks to put the people of two Local Government Areas at loggerheads.

The youth vanguard chronicled the history of the representation as follows: Hon. Eno Akpan (Ukanafun: 1999-2003); Hon. Ubong Etiebet (Oruk Anam: 2003-2007), Hon. Sabbath Obot (Ukanafun: 2007-2011) Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette (Oruk Anam: 2011-2015). The youths also reminded the people that there has been no repetition of representation just as it advised people not to sow seeds of discord by queuing behind desperate imposition which would not in anyway affect the lives of the majority of the constituents who provided the ladder for them to actualize their ambitions in the first instance.

Furthermore, the youths also decried infrastructural decay and chronic poverty among the people of the federal constituency even when provisions are made for the improvement of the lives of the people. It also lamented the yawning social stratum between the representatives of the people and the grassroots, describing the situation as a failed social contract. The Vanguard also stressed that there is always the need for representatives of the people to keep in touch with them by way of constituency briefing which many have failed, instead of advancing sophistries to deceive the people and justify their political avarice.

The youths questioned the logic which follows a second term in the federal constituency as it has no direct effect on improving the fortune of the good people of the area who have been suffering in untold hardship in the midst of plenty. They also called on the people to do the needful by supporting Deacon Offiong who is determined to emancipate the people from “customized poverty” engendered by problems associated with political leadership.
