The people of ward two in Ukanafun Local Government Area have unanimously resolved to support Gov. Udom Emmanuel beyond 2019.

The people at a well attended solemn assembly at the ward centre, Ikot Odiong, recently, also resolved to support the Senator for Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio for another term in the Upper Chambers  of the National Assembly.

They premised their support to the duo following a motion by Elder Godwin Ekpe, a one-time councillor from the ward, on effective representation, prudent management of  resources, delivery of dividends of democracy to Ukanafun, the senatorial district,  the state at large and purposeful leadership.

The solemn assembly was attended by the chairman, Ukanafun Local Government transition committee, Barrister  Abasiono Udomfu, the clan head of Southern Ukanafun, Akuku Akpan Akpan Nnam, the ward leader, Elder Sunday Brownson represented by the wife, Willing, the deputy ward leader,  Elder Godwin Ekpe, Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) ward chairman, Mr Friday Brownson, former ward chairman, Pastor Ufot Samuel, Elder Emmanuel Etukudo, Mr  Idongesit Ikot, Mr Ubong Nelson Etukudo,  Mr Nsidu Okorie, Pastor Magnus Kamanu, Elder Emmanuel Jumbo, Chief Saturday Charlie,  Engr Nsibiet Ebebe , youth leader, Mr Ime Friday and the ward woman leader, Mrs Patricia Friday Benson.

Others are:  Chief Ime Udofia, Elder Jumbo Mendie, Mr Dandison Onuoha, Mr Lucky Nwosu, Pastor Sunday Ebebe, Mrs Comfort David, Mrs Love Monday, Mr Eze Okugba, Mr Kufre Isaiah, Mr Ofonime Uko, Mr Kufre Offong, Mr Unwana Etim Udo, Mr Saturday Udodung, Mr Ntak Friday, Mr Kufre Thomas,  Mr Godwin Wilson,  top politicians from the ward, past and present  members of chapter and ward executives of the PDP, other political parties, chairmen and executives of village councils, town criers, elders, churches, the clergies, women and youths.

The people called on stakeholders in the local government area to zone the chairmanship position in the upcoming local government elections to ward two, having waited and supporting other wards to such position since the creation of Ukanafun Local Government Area 41 years ago.

They reminded the people that ward two was a border community and therefore very fragile for non members of the ward, out of pecuniary political interest to stoke fire unnecessarily, appealing to the PDP leadership in the state to call Obong Saturday Akpan, Obong Ime Atakpa and their cohorts to order.

They restated their confidence in Elder Sunday Brownson Idungafa as the ward leader and Elder Godwin Ekpe as deputy ward leader, stressing that the people would resist any attempt by infiltrators from other wards to compromise the peace and oneness that have existed in the ward for many years now.

The people also resolved that the solemn assembly will be a yearly event where all the people will seek the face of the Lord for the growth and development of the ward, the local government, state and the country at large.

The Ukanafun Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Udomfu commended the people of ward two for being the first in the entire local government area to think in the direction of the solemn assembly, saying the prayers and activities at the event would go a long way to turning round the fortunes of the ward and the local government area in general.

Udomfu frowned at the activities of some stakeholders who are  fond of leaving their wards to other wards to fan the embers of disunity and conflict, urging the people of ward two not to take laws into their hands by planning revenge.

He promised to use his good offices to ensure that such issues of one leaving his or her ward to  install leaders in other wards do not take place in any part of the local government area.

The council boss called on the people to continue to support the governor to deliver more and better dividends of democracy to them.

Earlier in his homily, Pastor Godscare Akanimo of Redemption Power Evangelical Church, Ikot Akpa Nkuk, whose message was themed:  The Cloud that Covered the Children with a Cause,  called on the people to unite, do away with evil things and speak in one voice if they hope to actualise their dreams.

Akanimo, who drew his message from Amos 3:4-6 and Exodus 20:1-6 read by a one-time supervisor for education in the local government council, Elder Emmanuel Etukudo emphasised on breaking evil covenants upon the ward, redemption from slavery, marginalisation and victimisation usually meted on the ward after all said and done by higher politicians of Ukanafun.

The cleric prayed God’s intervention for the ward, the local government area, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, and the government of Gov Udom Emmanuel.

The chairman of the solemn assembly planning committee and immediate past PDP chairman for the ward, Pastor Ufot Samuel appreciated the people for the large turnout for the event and expressed the hope that God would answer their prayers.

Highpoint of the solemn assembly were: the official handing over of the land to God by the clan head of Southern Ukanafun and village head of Idung Uko Udo, Akuku Akpan Akpan Nnam, prayers for the breaking of evil covenants, altars and for the repose of the souls of indigenes of the ward that were killed many years ago during elections.
