The planned mass protest instigated by music icon Mr. Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as 2 Face Idibia for today Monday against the administration of President Buhari has been condemned by a former Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Law Reform Commission, Hon. Paul Umoh Udo.
The Eket born Politician who is now a State caucus member of APC described the “sponsored” mass protest as very unpatriotic and meaningless bearing in mind President Buhari’s effort in “revamping an economy that was ravaged by corruption and mismanagement over the years by previous administrations”
Hon. Udo made the condemnation in Eket on Saturday during a “thank you” meeting he organized for his friends in the diaspora who attended the burial of his late mother penultimate week.
His words, “Idibia and co-travellers should consider the hours of manpower that will be wasted in the protest, what benefit will the protest give the country economically”.
“Why did 2 Face Idibia not protest against former Governor Godswill Akpabio when he lavished millions of Naira for him during his traditional marriage in Eket. Akpabio gave Idibia a Prado Jeep and sponsored over fifty people to Dubai to witness Idibia’s wedding but the musician did not reject the offer”, Udo said.
The APC State Caucus member averred that Idibia encouraged Akpabio to spend the State money recklessly and is now turning around to protest against a government that is poised to correct the anomalies of the past, adding that the emergence of President Buhari is the best thing to happen to Nigeria.
Hon. Udo maintained that two years is too short a time to address the mismanagement of over 40 years of clueless democratic experimentation including the era of General Gowon, former Head of State who once said that Nigeria’s problem was not money but how to spend it.
He called on various State Governments in the country to release appropriate allocations meant for the Local Government areas, adding that any state that has not conducted elections for the third tier of government should do so without delay. “We have only two tiers of government for now in Akwa Ibom State, the third tier of government is not functional because of an endless system of transition rigmarole”.
“Why has 2 Face Idibia who is an inlaw to Akwa Ibom State not plan a mass protest against the none existence of an elected third tier of Government in Akwa Ibom State if he is not sponsored by retrogressive forces in the country”, Udo stated.
Udo called on every Nigerian to join in the task of building the nation, stressing that the development of Nigeria is not a one man affair irrespective of political divide.
