The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Professor Balama Obomanu has called on public spirited individuals and Corporate Organizations not to leave educational development in the hands of government alone considering its huge capital implication.
Professor Obomanu made this call during a meeting of officials from Tertiary Education Trust fund (TETFUND) with Polytechnic Management, Staffs and Students.
In his words, “government should not only be the sweat merchant of education stock. Public spirited individuals and Cooperate Organization must also take part in the development of the sector” he stressed.
The Don said the Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana in line with the institution’s vision was “working tirelessly to be a pace setter in the provision of technological innovative and value oriented training to meet the manpower requirements necessary for the development of our great nation and beyond.” He welcomed the TETFUND team to the Polytechnic and expressed optimism that with TETFUND the Polytechnic’s dream will be fulfilled in no distant time.
According to Institution boss, the Polytechnic has secured accreditation for Computer Science and Statistics while efforts is being geared towards getting accreditation for Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Science Laboratory Technology, as well as some Management Courses.
Responding, the Leader of the TETFUND Team, Mrs. Nwobu Ebere announced that the Federal Polytechnic Ukana has been listed for TETFUND intervention in 2017. She expressed satisfaction at the facilities and structures on ground at the Polytechnic. Hear her, “this Polytechnic is listed for TETFUND intervention this year. We are impressed by the facilities and structures we have seen. We came here for verification and documentation and what we have seen, we will take the message back to the Executive Secretary in Abuja. We are really impressed and we hope that with the intervention from TETFUND this Polytechnic will get to higher heights” she said. She appealed to staff and students of the institution to make good use of whatever facility they will get.
In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr Chrysanthus Asuka thanked TETFUND for listing the Polytechnic for intervention. He commended the zeal of the Rector in ensuring that the school was listed by the interventionist agency. He prayed for more robust relationship between the Polytechnic and TETFUND.
High point of the visit witnessed Facility Tour of Temporary Campus and Permanent Site led by the Rector and other Management Staff of the Polytechnic. Other members of the TETFUND delegation include Asman Sani Maikudi, Danjuma Ado Mohammed.
