Okobo Youths endorse Gov. Udom for second term

Okobo Youths endorse Gov. Udom for second term

Youths from Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have left nobody in doubt about their usual and unshaken support for the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel as well as their determination to defend the Divine Mandate of the governor in 2019. Rolling out their drums and coming out in their numbers under the aegis of “Utibe Okobo Youth Organization”, the youth on Wednesday held a mega rally at the Government Primary School, Okobo, for the Official Inauguration and Launching of “Project Udom 2019”.

Reactions from the group which comprised youths from the 10 wards of Okobo local government area noted that the rally and “Project Udom 2019” became necessary as a public show of appreciation and support for Gov. Udom Emmanuel for his good works for Okobo people in particular and the entire Oro Nation at large, and to reaffirm their solidarity for the Governor come 2019. They maintained that the rally was a forum for PDP youth loyalists in the area to openly demonstrate their resolve and commitment to make real 2019.
Beyond that, the rally also served as a warning signal to some faceless politicians in Okobo, who may want to deceive the gullible, to steer clear as the entire local government is for PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Speaking on behalf of the Uti be Okobo Youth Organization, the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area Transition Committee and Chief Host of the event, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo said because Gov. Udom Emmanuel has “turned boys into men and turned men into leaders in Okobo”, the youths were solidly behind him and accordingly will do within their powers to keep intact the Divine Mandate of the Governor till 2023. He said that there was no reason for fear as the youths of the area had already taken a ratified stand on the matter.

Declaring the event open, the Chairman on the occasion, Dr, Friday Antai thanked the Okobo youths for their thoughtfulness in holding the rally and for identifying with a capable and God- fearing governor who has changed the socio-economic landscape of Okobo and the entire Oro Nation. Speaking further, the former local government council chairman and former Chairman of Governing Council, Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, maintained that there was neither vacancy in the Hilltop Mansion nor Okobo local government area for any other political party than PDP in 2019.

He said, “We are here to reaffirm our support for Gov. Udom Emmanuel and to reassure him that 2019 is a foregone conclusion. He is not going for second term because he wants it; it is rather because we the people, having seen what he has done and what he will do, have asked him to go once again. That is why if Gov. Udom refuses to go, Okobo people will buy the form for him. PDP has come to stay and it’s the party for the people”, he maintained.

On her part, the Deputy Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Member representing Okobo State Constituency, Princess Felicia Bassey in her remarks stressed that Okobo local government area, as the gateway into other local governments in Oro Nation, has never been known for speaking from both corners of the mouth. She commended the youths of the area for the patriotic step they have taken and promised to stand by them in the realization of the 2019 mandate. The lawmaker said, “Having seen what has just taken place today and the usual undivided support Okobo youths have for the governor and PDP in the state, no party or agent should dare come to the local government to waste his time. Okobo, like the entire Oro Nation, is for PDP - and that automatically means Gov. Udom Emmanuel staying put in the Hilltop Mansion till 2023.

In their goodwill messages, former Speaker of AKHA, Chief Peter Linus Umoh; Deputy Chief Whip, AKHA, Otuekong Nse Essien, among others extolled the leadership qualities of Gov. Udom Emmanuel as visible in the even spread of democratic dividends across the state. They added their voices in calling on the entire Okobo to continue to support the Governor so as to see the full realization of his industrialization drive. Present at the event were POP stalwarts and loyalists from other local government areas, royal fathers, and cultural groups. There were also placards-carrying youths with inscriptions such as “0kobo Endorses Udom”; “Utibe Okobo Stands By Udom”; “2019 Belongs to Udom”; Princess Felicia Bassey is doing well”.

In a related development, fortune fell on a-one-Iegged PDP supporter, Mr. Edet Jacob Ukpong, whose condition won the compassion of Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goal, Mr. Elijah Udoiyak, who promised to provide him with an artificial leg. The Okobo youth rally was one in a series of ongoing events among local government areas in the Oro nation to mobilize forces for Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019. Highpoint of the event was the swearing-in of executive members of “Project Udom 2019” by Barr. Dr. Effiong Osung and donation of funds by individuals to support the group.
