Former LG Chairmen pass vote of confidence on Gov. Udom, laud appointment of Barr. Ekong Sampson

Forum of Former Appointed Council Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State has been applauded for taking steps to further deepen democratic governance in the State by declaring their support for Gov Udom Emmanuel’s second term bid.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson gave the commendation when the executives of the Forum paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo.

The Special Adviser said support for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s 8-year tenure is support for posterity, industrialisation and diversification of economic flanks, to save Akwa Ibom State from plague of over-dependence on the mono, oil-driven economy, which Nigeria as a nation is currently battling. He also assured that the Udom Emmanuel led Government in the State has a viable reward mechanism for supporters and the entire people of the State. This, he added, will well accommodate the Forum.


Barrister Ekong Sampson urged the Former Appointed Chairmen to use their experience at the grassroots to mobilize more support for government policies across the State. He said he recalls with nostalgia his days in the council as an appointed chairman and appreciates the challenges of the office.

He expressed appreciation for his decoration as Grand Patron of the Forum and promised to act as a bridge between the Forum and the State Government.

The Chairman of the Forum of Appointed Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State, Obonganwan (Hon.) Lovina Umoh Effah declared the groups resolve to join political stakeholders in the State to laud the appointment of Barrister Ekong Sampson as Special Adviser, describing it as square peg in a square hole.

The 74 member Forum, according the Chairman, reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Udom Emmanuel led Government and the PDP. She also expressed hope that Ekong Sampson’s with his wealth of experience as a noble, selfless, trustworthy and intelligent politician will facilitate more dividends of democracy in the State.

Mr. Ubong Ekefre, the Organising Secretary of the Forum and spokesman at the visit, also said the Special Adviser’s appointment was well deserved based his vast grassroots experience. He declared that he was a product of Ekong Sampson’s reconciliatory capabilities.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of document of the Vote of Confidence passed by the Forum on Governor Udom Emmanuel; pledge to support him through his first term in office as well as his adoption as sole candidate of the Forum in 2019 for a second term in office.
